"Children in pastel-colored clothes scampered through the green grass of Golden 
Gate Park's Sharon Meadow Saturday, celebrating Easter a day early thanks to the

SF Garden Club Gifts 90 Trees to Golden Gate Park
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department celebrated the 90th anniversary
 of the San Francisco Garden Club on March 30 with the planting of a coast redwood
in Golden Gate Park's Fuchsia Dell. This was the first of 90 trees gifted by the
 Garden Club that will be planted throughout the park over the next year.

The donation from the San Francisco Garden Club will include:

* Monterey cypress and olive trees in locations around Sharon Meadow
* Ornamental magnolias and cherry trees on the perimeter of the San Francisco Botanical
Garden and Japanese Tea Garden
* Canopy and ornamental tree replacement in Golden Gate Park's Rhododendron Dell
* A variety of species to be planted in western portions of the park, including 
Monterey cypress, Catalina ironwood, pittosporum, and Norfolk Island pine
The San Francisco Garden Club (SFGC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1926.
Some of the original elected officers included John McLaren, the "father of Golden
Gate Park," Herbert Fleishhacker, and William H. Crocker. SFGC was established to
beautify the City of San Francisco, preserve scenic and historic points of interest,
and to aid and benefit horticultural activities.

NRPA and Disney Team Up to Revitalize City Parks
The National Recreation and Park Association is collaborating with the Walt Disney
Company, including Disney Citizenship, ABC Television and ESPN to revitalize parks
across the U.S. including a park here in San Francisco! One of three local parks
 will receive a $20,000 grant and you get to choose which one!

Greenagers Applications Available Now!
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department's Greenagers program offers teens
from the southeast side of San Francisco the chance to play an important role in
 the community by improving our city's green spaces and raising awareness about 
them. Greenagers work in various parks and open spaces throughout San Francisco,
 meet regularly with Rec and Park staff, community members and partners. Participants
will meet and work with teens their own age, collaborate with other youth organizations
and gain crucial skills in facilitating workshops, networking, public speaking, 
teamwork, environmental education, and community engagement.
