Join Us for a Leadership Conversation on Green Infrastructure
The California Coastal Conservancy, The Trust for Public Land, Save the Bay, San
 Francisco Estuary Partnership, East Bay Regional Park District, and the San Francisco
Recreation and Park Department are convening a regional leadership conversation 
on multiple-benefit green infrastructure.

The half-day event will begin with a Mayor's Breakfast highlighting innovative models
around the Bay Area and sharing opportunities to further integrate green infrastructure
into planning and development. Following the breakfast, national and regional green
infrastructure experts, state and local policymakers, practitioners, and community
leaders will convene to share case studies, discuss barriers and opportunities, 
and develop strategies for expanding implementation of green infrastructure in the
Bay Area.
Green infrastructure is a critical strategy for adapting to the impacts of climate
change, protecting air and water resources, creating mobility options, and improving
social cohesion and public health. As our region plans to accommodate a growing 
population, it is critical to re-envision the role of infrastructure in our communities
to serve multiple functions and ensure equitable development.

SF Rec and Park Celebrates Veteran's Day with The Mission Continues
In honor of Veterans Day, the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department partnered
with The Mission Continues for a day of service in McLaren Park this past Saturday.
The Mission Continues is a national nonprofit that empowers veterans who are adjusting
to life at home to find purpose and volunteer service through community impact. 
More than 30 veterans and other volunteers worked on vital fire abatement projects
around the park. Thank you for your service to both our country and community!

Public Art Proposals for Rossi Pool
The San Francisco Arts Commission is working with the Recreation and Parks Department
to commission a signature artwork piece for the renovated Rossi Pool that will inspire
and engage the pool's users and enhance their connection to recreation and to the
neighborhood.
The art opportunity will be installed in the interior of the building on an existing
concrete wall at the north end of the pool, which is pictured above.

Holiday Ice Rink at Union Square Open Now!
The Safeway Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square, presented by Alaska Airlines, a San
Francisco holiday tradition, is open! The rink will remain open through Monday, 
January 16, 2017, and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., (9:30 p.m.

The 9th Annual NEN Awards in January

Rec & Park is proud to be an organizational partner of the 9th Annual NEN Awards,
to be held at City Hall in Friday, January 27, 2017. The Awards celebrate the amazing
work of community leaders and organizations in San Francisco's neighborhoods.

Golden Gate Park Tennis Center Community Meeting on November 16

Butterflies & Blooms at the Conservatory of Flowers Begins November 17
Get eye to eye with a butterfly in the exhibit Butterflies & Blooms, coming to the
Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park this fall. The popular exhibit returns
by overwhelming demand to San Francisco's beloved Victorian greenhouse, transforming
its Special Exhibit gallery into a beautiful and intimate cottage garden aflutter
with hundreds of butterflies on the wing including magnificent monarchs, western
 swallowtails, painted ladies and more. Walk among a wide variety of brightly colored
blossoms like zinnias and daisies while free-flying butterflies flit from flower
 to flower, drinking nectar and getting covered in pollen.
The exhibit will be featured from November 17 through June 30, 2017. And anyone 
can become a member of the Butterfly Patrol for just a $20 donation to learn how
 to release a newly emerged butterfly into the exhibit. Patrol members receive complimentary
people-sized antennae and a special badge to take home.

Willie "Woo Woo" Wong Playground Community Meeting on November 19
Please save the date for our final community meeting for the Willie "Woo Woo" Wong
Playground project!  Our team has been working over the past several months to finalize
the plans and obtain the required regulatory approvals.  We are excited to return
to the neighborhood to show you the final result.
The meeting will take place on Saturday, November 19, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the playground
(830 Sacramento Street).  It will be an "Open House" - drop by any time to see the
final plans, talk to the design team, learn the next steps, and celebrate this major
milestone.  There will also be a special performance by Lion Dance Me in the morning!

San Francisco Marina Small Craft Harbor Holiday Event on December 16
Join the SF Marina Small Craft Harbor for their holiday event on Friday, December
16 from 4 - 7 p.m. The event will feature a lighted boat parade, live music, rock
climbing wall, and light holiday refreshments!
In addition, the San Francisco Fire Department will have their old-style fire truck
along with a toy drive hosted by its Toy Collection Program for Kids.

Tenderloin Street Soccer Fest on December 17
Street Soccer USA is teaming up with community based organizations and after-school
programs in the Tenderloin Neighborhood of San Francisco for a Street Soccer Tournament!
It will occur on December 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tenderloin Rec Center/Children's
Playground.
Join us for a Saturday of fun Street Soccer based games, activities, music, snacks
and more!  Families are welcome too!
