Exciting! A new era indeed! For us, it actually started
to get a little easier when they got mobile because
they were able to entertain themselves a little! I
would highly recommend a play yard. They can roam
around & develop their skills, you can go to the
bathroom without worrying about their safety. We love
 ours:

yardThere was a nice thread on childproofing on the
Facebook page recently - I'd search through there for
recommendations. We chose to baby proof as needed, and
it's mostly working out fine. Good luck!

Hi Anne, I'm a single mother with 3 yo b/g twins and
work in the financial district. I do have a
childproofing recommendation, but the card is at home.
Feel free to reach out! It's a fun ride!

Hi! We tried to built an enclosed space with furniture
and a fence and they hate it so much (the fence) that
decided to go "free range" most of the time. We have an
open floor kitchen-dining room-living room and this is
what we have: - Bathrooms and bedrooms door close ALL
THE TIME, they will sneak in as soon as they see an
opportunity. - Cabinets and drawers secured with locks
(we got those that come with glue so you don't have to
drill.)- Stair fence. - Corners and sharps edges cover
with those foam things. - We use plug in covers PLUS
TAPE on top of them (those little fingers can remove
them if given enough time.)- We put out of reach: books
and magazines and plants (they would eat paper,
cardboard, leaves and soil,) cables and small stuff
with small pieces. In general anything you don't want
eaten or torn apart. - Secure furniture to the wall.
They stand and try to climb everywhere. Get 1 walker
for both of them, although they will be more interested
in pushing chairs around in a few months!
