Wild Walks, Animal Feedings and More
Celebrate the gorgeous weekend at San Francisco Zoo & Gardens, home to more than 2,000 exotic, endangered and rescued animals representing more than 250 species as well as seven distinct gardens full of native and unusual plants! Announcing the Great Ape Project
The San Francisco Zoological Society celebrates the funding of its new Great Ape Project! The multi-million dollar project will first increase and improve the habitat space for the Zoo's resident chimpanzees, Cobby, Maggie and Minnie, by renovating a portion of the Pachyderm Building. One of the coolest features will be an outdoor, overhead walkway, the Jim Ludwig Passage, which will allow animals to connect from the Chimpanzee Grottoes to the new indoor space. Please pardon our mess while we work hard to dramatically improve our chimps' habitat!

Picture-Perfect Peacocks
The peacocks roaming the grounds of SF Zoo look especially colorful this time of year and can often be seen displaying their elaborate plumage to woo females. During mating season, you may hear shrill cries, indicating a peacock courting a peahen. At the end of mating season, the male will molt and lose his long colorful tail feathers and begin growing them again for the next breeding season.  Be sure to visit soon to see the peacocks during their "prettiest" weeks of the year.

Otterly Fascinating River Otters
Saturday, May 6
Join us for an exciting conservation lecture about river otters, charismatic carnivores and wonderful ambassadors for river and wetland restoration! Robyn Aston of the River Otter Ecology Project will discuss what’s known about the species, what needs to be discovered, and just how we manage to research elusive, secretive mammals who slide into the water and disappear when approached. The FREE lecture is May 6 from 1:00-2:30 pm in Osher Great Hall of the Lurie Education Center. Pacific Islander Weekend
Bring your family and friends to experience the incredible sights and sounds of the Pacific during Pacific Islander Heritage Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, May 6 & 7!  Visit some of the flora and fauna you might see on the Pacific Islands, including sea lions, marsupials and a wide variety of birds and insects.  Enjoy traditional dance and music from 11:00-1:30 each day, performed by professional Bay Area artists.

Mother's Day Special
The Zoo has so many mothers to celebrate this Mother’s Day, and we’re pleased to offer free admission to mothers who come to the Zoo with their children on Sunday, May 14. Be sure to bring your mom to see the wonderful animals who recently mothered infants by stopping by the following exhibits: flamingo, François’ langur, giant anteater, giraffe, guanaco, and wallaroo. Here's to all moms!
