The Mission Continues Volunteer Event at Buchanan Street Mall on September 9
The Mission Continues is a non-profit organization that empowers veterans who are
adjusting to life at home to find purpose through community impact. In remembrance
of September 11, they will be improving the playground and park at the Buchanan 
Street Mall (Buchanan Street between Eddy and Grove Streets) on September 9 from

Help us Repair the Koret Children's Quarter Playground
On June 24, our beloved Koret Children's Quarter playground was vandalized, severely
damaging the structure and closing part of the playground. The SF Parks Alliance

Yosemite Marsh Volunteer Workday on September 9

Join our Natural Areas gardeners for the latest installment of an ongoing habitat

Minnie & Lovie Ward Community Volunteer Day on September 9
The City's Fix-It Team is partnering with SF Rec and Park to organize a volunteer
day at Minnie & Lovie Ward Recreation Center, and we are looking for volunteers 
to join us! Through the Fix-It process, Oceanview residents identified the the park's
perimeter as an area in need of weeding. Meet at the southwest corner of Minnie 
& Lovie Ward at Capitol Avenue and Lobos Street. The event will run from 9:30 a.m.

Coastal Clean Up Day on September 16
Join us for Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday September 16, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Healthy Parks, Healthy People Trail Walk at Heron's Head Park on August 26
Free Guided Walk around a Bayside Wetland with Healthy Parks, Healthy People
Heron's Head Park (Jennings Street off of Cargo Way)
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Meet in the mini-park.
Join Recreation Leaders as we team up with the Heron's Head Eco Center for Science
Saturday! We will walk along the newly renovated waterfront and Bay Trail to admire
this example of restoration success. The park attracts more than 100 bird species
per year so bring those binoculars. Then it's off to visit the Eco Center for fun
lessons in sustainability.
For a more enjoyable walk remember to dress comfortably, wear walking shoes, bring

Last Show of the 80th Season of Stern Grove Festival on August 27
The 80th season of the the Stern Grove Festival is coming to a close! The Festival
has featured free Sunday concerts throughout the summer. Every year since 1938, 
the Stern Grove Festival Association, in partnership with SF Rec and Park, presents
an admission-free performing arts series in Sigmund Stern Grove's beautiful outdoor
amphitheater setting.
With a career spanning 60+ years, powerhouse vocalist Mavis Staples crosses easily
between gospel, soul, folk, pop, R&B, blues, rock, and hip-hop. From the Delta-inflected
gospel sound she helped create with her father and The Staples Singers, to her recent
Kennedy Center Honor and collaborations with Arcade Fire and Gorillaz, Staples is
a truly iconic American artist.
Concert opening act Kev Choice Ensemble is a jazz/hip-hop/funk band led by Oakland-based
pianist, emcee, producer, and music historian Kev Choice.
