Winter Lights in Golden Gate Park Tomorrow Night, December 7
Join us for "Winter Lights in Golden Gate Park" on Thursday, December 7, from 4-8
p.m., featuring the 88th annual lighting of the city's official holiday tree at 
McLaren Lodge (501 Stanyan and Fell) at 6 p.m., followed by a stunning new light
 art installation at the Conservatory of Flowers (100 JFK Drive) at 7 p.m.
>From McLaren Lodge to Conservatory Valley, this free, family-friendly event will
 include carnival rides, a cookie factory, arts and crafts for kids, visits with
 Santa, music and live entertainment.
The Conservatory of Flowers light show will celebrate the natural wonders of the
 seasons with "Photosynthesis: Love for All Seasons," a new series of artistic illuminations
on the building's iconic façade that will appear nightly through Spring 2018. For

City Controller Releases Annual Park Maintenance Standard Report
The City's Controller's Office has issued its 12th annual report on the condition
of the city's parks, based on the results of evaluations through Fiscal Year 2016-17.
Highlights include:

* For the      second year in a row, the citywide average park score has increased
-      going from 85% in FY15 to 86% in FY16 and to 88% in FY17.

* 61% of the City's parks experienced an increase in score from FY15 to      FY17.
Some of the greatest increases are likely the result of renovations      funded 
by the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks bond.

Mayor Ed Lee's Annual Toy Drive through December 15
Help a city kid in need! Donate a new, unwrapped toy at City Hall, Room 160 (1 Dr.
Carlton B. Goodlett Place) in support of Mayor Ed Lee's annual toy drive, going 
on now through December 15. Your donations benefit the SFPD's and SF Firefighters'
toy programs. Toys will be distributed at various locations throughout the month.

Teen Musical Theatre Company Wins First Place at SF Youth Art Summit!
Our Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company (YPTMTC) won first place at the 
7th Annual San Francisco Youth Art Summit this past Saturday, December 2. YPTMTC,
which took first place last year as well, performed excerpts from their upcoming
 musical "Bat Boy." SF Rec and Park General Manager Wins AIA Local Government Award

Dolores Park North Field Closure on December 13
The multi-use field on the North Side of Dolores Park will be closed starting on
 Wednesday, December 13 for its annual winter maintenance. We will be aerating the
lawn, fertilizing, seeding and adding some compost mulch to help restore the area
in preparation for the busy spring and summer months. The area will be closed for
about eight weeks, weather dependent, to allow for the various applications to take

SF Rose Society Pruning Demo on December 9
Join the SF Rose Society at the Rose Garden in Golden Gate Park (John F. Kennedy
 Drive and Park Presidio Drive) for their winter rose pruning demo! This FREE event
will feature volunteers from the SF Rec and Park and the SF Rose Society demonstrating
proper winter pruning techniques and free cuttings from renowned grade 1 roses.

Encaustic Painting Workshops at Harvey Milk Center For the Arts on December 9
Our cultural arts team is featuring an Encaustic Painting one day workshop at Harvey
Milk Center for the Arts (50 Scott Street) on December 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
Encaustic art is created by heat and pigment infused beeswax combined with photographs

Junior Acting Troupe Presents: Mary Shelley's Frankenstein on December 15 and 16
Join the Junior Acting Troupe as they present a FREE theatrical performance of "Frankenstein",
the classic tale concerning the nature of good and evil. Childlike in his innocence
but grotesque in form, Frankenstein's bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile
universe by his horror-struck maker. The show takes place on December 15 and 16

OMI Holiday Party at Minnie and Lovie Ward Recreation Center on December 16

12th Annual City Wide Kwanzaa Celebrations from December 26 to January 1

Art Workshops for Infants & Toddlers at Randall Museum in October
Drop into the Randall Museum at Mission Art Center (745 Treat Avenue) for an innovative
art class for infants and toddlers ages 1 year and two months to 5 years old. Kids
and caregivers will combine art making with children's songs and nursery rhymes.
 Together they can use toys and everyday art tools to make this art class extra 
fun. Paint with sponges, miniature cars, rollers, fingers and more. As with every
art class, dress for a mess!
Infants and toddlers must be accompanied by a participating adult with a cost of
 $10 per parent-child combo. Drop-in between 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays and
1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays in November.
