Mansell Corridor Opening Celebration this Saturday, February 4
Join us for the opening celebration for the Mansell Streetscape Improvement Project,
February 4, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Mansell Street at Visitacion Avenue in McLaren Park).
In partnership with San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA), San Francisco
Public Works (Public Works), and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency
(SFMTA) this project is a first in San Francisco - it converts two lanes of vehicle
traffic into a permanent pedestrian and bicycle only pathway.  Funding for the project
is from vehicle registration fees, gasoline tax revenue, the city's half-cent for
transportation funds, grants from One Bay Area and the State's Urban Greening program
as well as the 2012 parks bond.
Immediately following the program and ribbon cutting, be sure to join us for a McLaren
Park Community Workshop.

Geneva Community Garden Ground Breaking on February 9
Please join us for the ground breaking of the Geneva Community Garden on Thursday,
February 9 from 4 to 5 p.m at Geneva and Delano avenues in District 11. This project

Greenagers Graduation; Now Accepting Applications for 2017-2018
This past Saturday, January 28, nine teenagers graduated from the San Francisco 
Recreation and Park Department and the Port of San Francisco's Greenagers program,
a youth leadership program offering teens from the city' southeast neighborhoods
  a chance to play an important role in their community. In total, the group contributed
over 1,400 volunteer hours at 11 different parks in the city, in addition to six
 leadership building excursions, over the past year. Congratulations and thank you

Celebrate the Year of the Rooster at the SF Zoo February 4-5
To commemorate the Year of the Rooster, the San Francisco Zoo is thrilled to host
a weekend celebration in honor of the Lunar New Year! Soak up the ambiance of the
occasion and marvel at traditional Chinese lion and folk dance performances. Go 
on a Zodiac Scavenger Hunt through the zoo to learn fun facts about the animals 
found on the Chinese calendar. Stop by the Family Farm to see  "Mac" - the Zoo's
 rooster!
Guests born in the Year of the Rooster (1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993,
2005, 2017) will receive free admission on that day.

Healthy Parks, Healthy People Trail Walk - Stow Lake on February 4
Start at the Stow Lake Boathouse (50 Stow Lake Drive) for some light stretching 
followed by an easy-going walk around one of the parks most popular areas from 10
a.m. to 12 p.m. Meet by the picnic tables next to the dock. Our professional RPD
 guides will provide a short interpretive program designed specifically for each
 location. The staff will have first aid equipment and are certified in CPR. Please
bring water, wear a hat, and always use plenty of sunscreen.

The Addams Family Performance on February 9-11 and 16-18
Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company presents their newest production with
"The Addams Family" at the Eureka Theatre (215 Jackson Street). Performances will

Butterflies & Blooms at the Conservatory of Flowers Now Open
Get eye to eye with a butterfly in the exhibit Butterflies & Blooms, coming to the
Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park this fall. The popular exhibit returns
by overwhelming demand to San Francisco's beloved Victorian greenhouse, transforming
its Special Exhibit gallery into a beautiful and intimate cottage garden aflutter
with hundreds of butterflies on the wing including magnificent monarchs, western
 swallowtails, painted ladies and more. Walk among a wide variety of brightly colored
blossoms like zinnias and daisies while free-flying butterflies flit from flower
 to flower, drinking nectar and getting covered in pollen.
The exhibit will be featured through June 30, 2017. And anyone can become a member
of the Butterfly Patrol for just a $20 donation to learn how to release a newly 
emerged butterfly into the exhibit. Patrol members receive complimentary people-sized
antennae and a special badge to take home.
