Flower Piano at the SF Botanical Garden Through July 24
This summer, music, community, and nature join forces once again in the heart of
 the city during the 12-day, outdoor extravaganza known as Flower Piano. Now in 
its third year, Flower Piano once again transforms San Francisco Botanical Garden
(SFBG) into the city's own alfresco concert hall, and everyone is invited to play
and listen. From July 13 - 24 only, visitors will find twelve pianos tucked among
the many flower-filled gardens within SFBG's 55 acres and are encouraged to play
 what they like, from chopsticks to Tchaikovsky. On weekend days, event partner 
Sunset Piano has invited professional pianists and a whole host of other musicians
to perform throughout the Garden as well, and the public is welcome to pack a picnic
and enjoy the shows. Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love in July
Journey into a forest full of faeries and lovers in We Players' adaptation of William
Shakespeare's all-time favorite, "A Midsummer Night's Dream." The six-person version
of this classic tale is a dark and hilarious exploration of the complexities of 
love, our complicated human relationships, and the boundaries between reality and
imagination.

Help us Repair the Koret Children's Quarter Playground
On June 24, our beloved Koret Children's Quarter playground was vandalized, severely
damaging the structure and closing part of the playground. The SF Parks Alliance

Meet Me at a Park Trail Project on July 29
Please join us from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 29 at McLaren Park. Our 
Greenagers will be restoring and maintaining a trail, put in place by Volunteers
 for Outdoor California back in 2014. The trail is now overgrown with weeds and 
needs some upkeep and redefining.
We invite you to come out and work alongside the Greenagers and our generous sponsors

Commons on 3rd Thursdays on July 20
The first Commons on 3rd Thursdays will take place tomorrow, July 20 from 4 to 8
 p.m. at the Civic Center Center Commons! There will be free programming provided
by People in Plazas, Another Planet Entertainment and Noise Pop. Food and alcoholic
beverages will be for sale from Off the Grid. In addition, the Asian Art Museum 
will offer extended evening hours with the Civic Center Community Benefit District

10:00 a.m.-12 noon; Meet in the mini-park

Join Recreation Leaders as we team up with the Heron's Head Eco Center for Science
Saturday! We will walk along the newly renovated waterfront and Bay Trail to admire
this example of restoration success. The park attracts more than 100 bird species
per year so bring those binoculars. Then it's off to visit the Eco Center for fun
lessons in sustainability.

Stern Grove Festival on July 23
The 80th season of the the Stern Grove Festival is in full swing! The Festival features
free Sunday concerts throughout the summer. Every year since 1938, the Stern Grove
Festival Association, in partnership with SF Rec and Park, presents an admission-free
performing arts series in Sigmund Stern Grove's beautiful outdoor amphitheater setting.
The Mexican musical group Los Ángeles Azules will perform cumbia sonidera, a fusion
of 1950/60s cumbia and electronic music. They will share the stage with GRAMMY-nominated
singer Ximena Sariñana and members of Mexican electronica group Kinky.
Ensambles Ballet Folklório de San Francisco will also return to the Stern Grove 
Festival stage and celebrate their 25-year anniversary of preserving Mexican Folklorio
Dance.

National Night Out on August 1
Tuesday, August 1 is National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that
promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our 
neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Rec centers and parks across the
city will be participating in this event with a variety of live entertainment, arts
and recreational activities and informational opportunities. The following SF Rec
and Park locations will be participating:

* Minnie & Lovie Ward Recreation Center (650 Capitol Avenue) from 5 to 8 p.m.
* Harvey Milk Recreational Arts Center (50 Scott Street) from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
* Victoria Manalo Draves Park (16 Sherman Street) from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
