Got 10 Minutes? Walk to a Park!
Mayor Edwin Lee and the Recreation and Park Department proudly announced yesterday
that San Francisco is the first and only city in the United States where all residents
have access to a park within a 10-minute walk. The findings were part of the Trust
for Public Land's (TPL) ParkScore, an annual assessment of the nation's 100 largest
cities.
The announcement took place at the newly renovated Hilltop Park, a recreational
facility with a state-of-the-art skate park and playground. To get to the park,
Mayor Lee, Recreation and Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg, and TPL's Urban Parks
Director Adrian Benepe took a 10-minute walk with children from the nearby Family
& Children Empowerment Services child care center.

2017 City Survey Results Show Parks Making a Difference
The results of the 2017 City Survey [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001Z_P0Qw943Vt1HLpShcKYPqC5EpOeaErXEPE__TFQ3Bqp-HQHIhvK7eueWHCTe4UypS1ZAAhIFBWyTHA--f4xpdvMh-XwEetSS4TNfNWCzSZ9nNdOdWKAn7gWm9vPGF3kbda68U8F_zT6MewogG-RX1AJlzOPN0xN0KHR7m0KUQ-0FTeQBg3Z5g==&c=-oRo4mWZNVurEwb22i0ayO_3NZV-cvv_NwsGdcAbFXgc9lonhAfHbg==&ch=7ObSLK_A05ve6mz5jeUiGLg5_uOTgKzPHT9jqZqEemSxxRcOTZkW6A==]
have been released, and Rec and Park is again proud of its work to bring clean,
safe and fun parks to city residents.
The biennial City Survey, published by the Office of the Controller, objectively
assesses San Francisco residents' use of and satisfaction with various city services.
The 2017 City Survey is the 15th report analyzing survey data on resident perceptions.

* The citizen respondents to this latest survey gave us an overall grade of B, and
within that grade are the largest increases in year-over-year scores for any City
department.

* The quality of our landscaping and recreation programs were each graded a B+,
something we're very proud of because maintaining beautiful parks and providing
enriching recreational activities are the core essence of our mission.

* All recreation and parks system attributes received higher ratings in 2017 than
in 2015, with the quality of athletic fields and courts and the condition of recreation
center and clubhouse buildings receiving the largest increase in year-over-year
ratings.

* Residents continued to report high rates of park usage, with nearly 70% visiting
a city park at least once per month and 42% visiting at least once per week.
To see the full results of the City Survey, visit the Office of the Controller's
 website at sfgov.org/citysurvey [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001Z_P0Qw943Vt1HLpShcKYPqC5EpOeaErXEPE__TFQ3Bqp-HQHIhvK7eueWHCTe4UypS1ZAAhIFBWyTHA--f4xpdvMh-XwEetSS4TNfNWCzSZ9nNdOdWKAn7gWm9vPGF3kbda68U8F_zT6MewogG-RX1AJlzOPN0xN0KHR7m0KUQ-0FTeQBg3Z5g==&c=-oRo4mWZNVurEwb22i0ayO_3NZV-cvv_NwsGdcAbFXgc9lonhAfHbg==&ch=7ObSLK_A05ve6mz5jeUiGLg5_uOTgKzPHT9jqZqEemSxxRcOTZkW6A==].

track meet, featuring 50-meter, 100-meter, 200-meter races, along with a long jump
and a 4 x 100 relay!
