Reindeer Romp Begins this Weekend!

Santa is sending his favorite reindeer (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=708aa0fc82&e=7683a9aed3) , "Belle", "Holly" and "Peppermint" to spread holiday cheer at San Francisco Zoo & Gardens! Beginning November 18, majestic reindeer will be romping at SF Zoo's Playfield Lawn, near the spectacular Elinor Friend Playground. Celebrate the holiday season by visiting the animals that help Santa with all his special deliveries!

SF Zoo and Gardens strongly disagrees with the recent change in US policy allowing importation of elephant trophies from African countries. “Elephants are not trophies,” says CEO of SFZS, Tanya Peterson. “They are vital to their natural environment, and their numbers have been in staggering decline. While we cannot legislate for other countries, the notion that we now support game hunting of a threatened species is ludicrous. The U.S. should be a conservation leader, not a trophy collector."

Although the situation is grim, it’s not too late for concerned citizens to make a difference. Actionable steps you can take include signing SF Zoo & Gardens STOP Ivory Trade pledge - an anti-ivory pledge drive that the Zoo began in August 2017. Turkey Fun Fact

Do you know what a snood is?  A snood is the fleshy flap of skin which hangs from the beak of a male turkey. Stop by the Fisher Family Farm at the Youth Exploration Zone to see the snood on our male turkey, “Alton."  This Thanksgiving, “Alton” and our other turkeys will enjoy their own feast of fresh fruits and vegetables.
