McLaren Bike Park Opening on October 21
Strap on your helmets! You're invited to the opening of San Francisco's first bike
park, McLaren Bike Park, on Saturday, October 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The brand

Scaregrove on October 27
Boo! Scaregrove returns to Stern Grove (19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard), on Friday,
October 27 from 3 to 9 p.m. An "out of this world" Halloween event, this year's 
event will feature a costume contest and parade, haunted houses, hay rides, carnival
rides, giant inflatables, food for sale and live entertainment. $10 per person; 
children under 2 years old are free!
Tickets are now available at the McLaren Lodge Annex (501 Stanyan Street in Golden
Gate Park) Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., until the day of the event,

City Celebrates Walk & Roll to School Day
Mayor Ed Lee, Assemblymember David Chiu, D11 Supervisor Ahsha Safai, Rec and Park
GM Phil Ginsburg and other city officials get a group of students warmed up for 
Walk & Roll to School Day on October 4. The group made its way from Excelsior Playground
to nearby Cleveland Elementary School to highlight the many health and social benefits
of walking.

Greenagers Celebrate National Public Lands Day
The Northeast Greenagers celebrated the 24th annual National Public Lands Day this
past Saturday at Michelangelo Playground by removing a truck load of weeds and spreading
two truckloads of mulch in the park! They also interacted with park users, sharing
outreach information and leading kid-friendly activities. Be sure to click the picture

National Public Lands Day is the country's largest, single-day volunteer effort 
for public lands, which is hosted by the National Environmental Education Foundation

Former Greenager Kelly Hong Wins NextJen Fund Scholarship Award
Congratulations to former Greenager Kelly Hong for winning the NextJen Fund Scholarship
Award this past Saturday!
The NextJen Fund is dedicated to providing scholarships and financial support to
 outstanding, college-bound youth who are passionate advocates for the environment,
their community, and need additional support to achieve their self-defined goals
 and aspirations.
Kelly was one of the original 11 participants who kicked off our pilot Greenagers
program in 2012. Having had prior work experience with Crissy Field's Linking Individuals
to their Natural Community (LINC) program, Kelly's leadership ability was readily
apparent, as she helped develop and influence the direction of program sessions 
amongst her peers. She graduated from the Greenagers program in January 2013, accumulating
over 100 hours of service with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department.
 Congratulations, Kelly!

Panhandle Playground Community Workshop #2 on October 19

Art Workshops for Infants & Toddlers at Randall Museum in October
Drop into the Randall Museum at Mission Art Center (745 Treat Avenue) for an innovative
art class for infants and toddlers ages 1 year and two months to 5 years old. Kids
and caregivers will combine art making with children's songs and nursery rhymes.
 Together they can use toys and everyday art tools to make this art class extra 
fun. Paint with sponges, miniature cars, rollers, fingers and more. As with every
art class, dress for a mess!
Infants and toddlers must be accompanied by a participating adult with a cost of
 $10 per parent-child combo. Drop-in between 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays and
1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays in October.

Become a Randall Museum Docent!
Interested in becoming a docent at the Randall Museum? Learn about our California
native animals in a six-week class that covers biology and natural history, then
 teach 1st to 4th graders about animals in the Randall Museum Field Trip programs.
This course requires a 6-month commitment following the class to teach one day per
