Boo at the Zoo is This Weekend!
Our thrillingly popular event, Boo at the Zoo, (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=8bb5ee9bde&e=7683a9aed3) only happens once a year and you don't want to miss it! The family-friendly Halloween event includes trick-or-treat stations throughout the Zoo, face-painters and arts & crafts. Support the Zoo’s efforts to reduce waste by bringing your own trick-or-treat bag from home! Dress up in costume and head to the Patas Lawn at 11:00 am to participate and watch the Costume Parade and Contest. Celebrate the Final Weekend of ZOOtoberfest!
Celebrate the final weekend of ZOOtoberfest with us! Kids will love going on an adventure in "Harvest Hallow" where they can navigate through our giant hay maze with play areas along the way and use our festive setting for photo ops. Our "Zoo Brew Haus" is perfect for all ages, with a great selection of brews, a full slate of German-inspired dishes and energetic live music at The Depot Grill, open from 12pm-3pm. You may even want to get up and dance!

Catch a Glimpse of Our Special Tarantula Exhibit Before it's Gone!
They’re big. They’re hairy. But are they scary? Find out why the largest spiders in the world are simply misunderstood gentle giants. You may even learn to love them! Our Tarantula special exhibit (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=f98dff1595&e=7683a9aed3) will be here through Halloween to take visitors on a journey of scientific discovery and present these marvelous, eight-legged beasts in a whole new light.

Here at the Zoo and In the Wild!
Recognizing animal wellness and wildlife conservation go hand in hand. Earlier this month a group of 13 Board, Docent, donors and staff visited three countries in Africa (Zimbabwe, Botswana and Uganda). SFZS Animal Curator Jim Nappi’s expertise in hoofstock and carnivore behavior was particularly useful in Botswana where they encountered elephants, giraffes, zebra, lions, wild dogs and two elusive leopards! Sadly, though, not one rhino was to be seen, highlighting the importance of our breeding programs in captivity. The group spent time with reformed poachers, local NGOs and eco-tourist experts in Uganda in an effort to bring more awareness to the country’s vital wildlife. This trip underscores the reality that conservation cannot occur in a vacuum but requires action both at home and abroad!

Winter Zoo Camp
At Winter Zoo Camp (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=d88cad4ec6&e=7683a9aed3) , your camper will spend the week going on guided tours, meeting with animal keepers, playing fun games, making amazing crafts and learning about how animals survive the challenges of winter.  Winter Zoo Camp is open for children ages 4 years old through grade 5.
