This April, San Francisco is a part of the Meet Me at the Park Earth Month Campaign,
a collaboration between the National Recreation and Park Association and The Walt
Disney Company, including Disney|ABC Television Group and ESPN, to help fund local
park improvement projects in 16 U.S. cities across the country. The campaign includes
three potential projects in San Francisco - one of which will receive a $20,000 
grant for park improvements. They are our Greenagers at Bayview Hill Park, All-Star
Summer at Youngblood Coleman Playground and the Tennis and Learning Center. You

112th Anniversary of the 1906 Earthquake and the Park Aid Station
April 18 marks the 112th anniversary of the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake
and fire, which destroyed 28,000 buildings and instantly displaced 250,000 city 
residents from their homes. San Francisco parks and park employees were key in sheltering
the victims of the disaster and starting the city on its long road to recovery. 
One little unassuming building at the east end of Golden Gate Park played a huge

New Art Installation Coming to Patricia's Green in Hayes Valley
A new yearlong public art installation is coming to Patricia's Green (Fell Street
and Octavia Boulevard), made possible with funding from developer impact fees. SQUARED
is a 50-foot-tall tree "reimagined in a futuristic world post nature," according
 to the artist Charles Gadeken. At night, the sculpture performs a light show in
 an almost infinite array of color patterns, creating a different experience and
 ambiance from one minute to the next. In honor of this new installation, there 
will be a dedication event hosted by the San Francisco Arts Commission on Saturday,

San Francisco Bay Sox Players Participate in Trailblazer Series
This past weekend, players from our all-girls Bay Sox baseball team participated
 in the Trailblazer Series at Major League Baseball's Compton Youth Academy in Los
Angeles. Last year, USA Baseball and Major League Baseball launched a tournament
 for girls that was built around the weekend of Jackie Robinson Day. This year, 
there were approximately 100 girls from around the country ages 13 and under that
participated, including seven girls from our Bay Sox team. Congratulations ladies
on continuing to break barriers in the sport of baseball!

Civic Center Public Realm Plan Community Open House on April 24
Please join us next Tuesday for the second Civic Center Public Realm Plan Community
Open House, where you'll have the first look at the design options for the long-term
improvements to Civic Center's plazas, streets and other public spaces based on 
the feedback the City has received from the community to date. The event will take
place from 3:30 to 8 p.m. with overviews of the presentation at 4 and 6:30 p.m. 
at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium Polk Hall (99 Grove Street). This FREE event
 will also feature light food and refreshments along with children's activities!
 Your input will help create a final design plan for enhancing Civic Center as a

Greenagers Now Hiring for the Class of 2019
The Greenager Program is an outdoor youth leadership program created and designed
to offer early high school teens a chance to play an important role in the community
by improving the city's green spaces! We're looking for rising 9th to 10th grade
 students who are interested in getting involved in their community and local parks

Beekeeping at the Golden Gate Park CommUNITY Garden on April 21
In celebration of Earth Day, join us and the Planet Bee Foundation this Saturday

Kids Games at Kezar Stadium on May 6
Stretch those legs out and join us for the 3rd Annual Kids' Games at Kezar Stadium,
a FREE Olympic-style track meet for boys and girls ages 5 to 14 years old. The event
will take place on Sunday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature the 50 meter
dash, 100 meter dash, and the Long Jump. Lunch will be served for all participants
with food trucks will be on site for everyone else. Trainers and coaches will be
