Vote for Your Favorite Park Project!
This April, San Francisco is a part of the Meet Me at the Park Earth Month Campaign,
a collaboration between the National Recreation and Park Association and The Walt
Disney Company, including Disney|ABC Television Group and ESPN, to help fund local
park improvement projects in 16 U.S. cities across the country. The campaign includes
three potential projects in San Francisco - one of which will receive a $20,000 
grant for park improvements. They are our Greenagers at Bayview Hill Park, All-Star
Summer at Youngblood Coleman Playground and the Tennis and Learning Center. You

80th Anniversary Celebration of the Angler's Lodge and Casting Pools
Join the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club and Rec and Park for a celebration
 marking the 80th anniversary of the historic Angler's Lodge and Casting Pools (1232
John F. Kennedy Drive) in Golden Gate Park on Saturday, May 12. A project of the
 Works Progress Administration (WPA) in 1938, the ponds are free and open to anyone
with an interest in fly fishing, from beginners to seasoned experts. The day will
start with free casting lessons from 9:30 a.m. to noon, followed by a ceremony and

Historical Landmark Installed at Glen Canyon Park
On Saturday, April 21, we celebrated the placement of the California Historical 
Landmark No. 1002 plaque in Glen Canyon Park, which housed the first dynamite factory
in the United States! This factory was built by Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite
and for whom the Nobel Prize would be named. It was constructed in 1868 but would
be leveled in an explosion a year later in 1869 and relocated from the park afterwards.

Two More Tennis Courts to be Resurfaced through SFFSR Grant
With the weather heating up, we're excited to announce the next round of tennis 
court resurfacing projects in our parks through a generous grant from San Franciscans
for Sports and Recreation (SFFSR)! We will be resurfacing two tennis courts at Buena
Vista Park beginning on Friday, May 21 and four tennis courts at Mountain Lake Park
beginning on Friday, May 28. Thank you SFFSR for making this possible and we look

Twin Peaks Open House on May 8
Join us for an open house on the proposed designs for the eastern half of the Twin
Peaks Boulevard "Figure 8" on May 8. The purpose is to review and discuss a proposed
design for converting the closed roadway into more of a promenade focused on the
 pedestrian and bicyclist experience. The meeting will take place at the Midtown

Young People's Teen Musical Theater Company Presents Snoopy the Musical on April
 27
Join Young People's Teen Musical Theater Company (YPTMTC) for their presentation
 of Snoopy the Musical. The sequel to You're a good man, Charlie Brown, is based
 on the beloved Peanuts comic book strip. YPTMTC is made up entirely of teens, and
with three months of rehearsals under their belt for this production, they are ready

Free Guided Walk in the Park with Healthy Parks, Healthy People
Port of SF's Heron's Head Park (Jennings Street off of Cargo Way)

Join us as we team up with the Herons Head Eco Center for Science Saturday! We will
walk along the beautiful San Francisco waterfront and Bay Trail, bird watching and
socializing. We will also visit the Eco Center for a fun lesson or two in sustainability.

Garden Resource Day on April 28 at Alemany Farm
Join us for our first Garden Resource Day of the year at Alemany Farm on April 28
from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to our compost and mulch, we will also have veggie
plants to giveaway, as well as a station to clean and repair your small garden tools.

2018 Heron Watch on April 28!
Observe the magnificent Great Blue Herons and their chicks at Stow Lake on Saturdays
in April, May and June during their nesting season including this Saturday, April
28! This FREE program in Golden Gate Park will have interns and volunteers through
SF Nature Education using spotting scopes to direct attention to the herons and 
their chicks! The observation site will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with directional
signs at the Stow Lake Boathouse (50 Stow Lake Drive). For more information, click

The Splash Bash at Hamilton Pool on April 28
