[House] AVA Blast -- Reminder - Deadlines Fast Approaching for WEG Demos, Junior Training Camps and Nominations

August 29, 2018 Reminder - Important Deadlines This Week  Vaulters - Will you be at WEG? The AVA will have a booth at the World Equestrian Games and will be doing barrel demonstrations. Sign Up by August 31. Spots to participate are limited and are on a first come, first serve basis. To be eligible, you must sign up in advance. All vaulters who participate at WEG are expected to be in full competition dress (unitard, makeup, hair, etc). This is an exciting opportunity to represent the AVA and to promote vaulting. (Please note that the following moves will not be allowed and routines must be modified accordingly: flips (on or off the barrel), flying dismounts, and or backbends.) You must have your own ticket to WEG as the AVA will not be paying for transportation, ticketing, housing, etc. for the demo vaulters.  If you are interested in performing on the barrel at WEG, please email your name, contact information, phone number, the name of your vaulting club, the dates you will be at WEG, a summary of your vaulting experience, and a brief description or video of your routine to: Michelle McLean by August 31, 2018 at DirectorEducation at americanvaulting.org. If so, check out these great training camps sponsored by US Equestrian! US Equestrian Vaulting Pathways Training Camp for Junior Individuals and Squads Oct 20 - 21 in Woodside, California Oct 27 - 28 in Denver, Colorado Topic: These camps are the first in a series of educational opportunities for Juniors this season. The October camps will focus on compulsories. Sessions will include technique, scoring, and fitness/gymnastics drills. The content of the California and Colorado camps will be identical. Squads and individuals will be taught together (and vaulters may participate as both an individual and a member of a squad.) Click here for the Individuals Application (due Sep 4) Click here for the Squad Application (due Sep 4) Congratulations to Woodside Vaulter, Miki Yang, on Winning the USEF Children Dressage National Championship last weekend. From International Vaulter to National Champion Miki Yang Earns Top Honors in USEF Children Dressage National Championship. The USEF Children Dressage National Championship was established in 2017 and concluded its second year Sunday, Aug. 26th on the final day of the U.S. Dressage Festival of Championships at the Lamplight Equestrian Center. Competing against a field of 10 horse-and-rider combinations, Miki competed on her pony "Sammy". For the full article, click here. Miki was a member of the Woodside Squad that competed in WEG in Caen, France in 2014 and earned the Bronze Medal at the Junior World Championships in Ermelo, Netherlands in 2015. She was also on the Junior Squad at the 2017 World Championships and competed with her sister, Emi Yang, on the Woodside Junior/B Teams this year. Vaulting Scholarship Opportunity The AVA was contacted recently about a scholarship opportunity from the United States International Vaulting Council. This organization states there are scholarship funds available to eligible vaulters, clubs and vaulting event coordinators. Applications need to be received by September 30th for this year’s scholarships. USIVC will accept applications after that date for next year’s scholarships. Per their 990 IRS Filing, the stated purpose of the United States International Vaulting Council is “to select and award scholarships to (1) the most competent representatives from the United States to compete in international vaulting competitions; (2) event coordinators to put on vaulting competitions, and (3) vaulting clubs to put on vaulting clinics.” The AVA does not have any further information regarding USIVC or the terms and conditions of its scholarship award program. Nominations are now open for AVA board positions to be elected by the membership this Fall, for two-year terms spanning the 2019-2020 calendar year.  Nominations close August 31. Nominations are now open for President, Secretary, VP Development, and VP Membership.
