Balboa Park Off-Leash Dog Play Area Opening Night on March 22

Japan Center's 50th Anniversary on March 28
On March 28 of 1968, the Japantown Peace Plaza and what was originally called the
Japan Cultural and Trade Center opened to the public for the first time. This March
28 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., join us and our community partners for a celebration
of the 50th anniversary of the Japantown Peace Plaza and Japan Center, which will
feature a special ceremony to commemorate this historic day and to honor Japantown's

Koret Playground Reopening Celebration on March 31
Celebrate the reopening of the Koret Children's Quarter Playground (320 Bowling

Eggstravaganza on March 31
Come and enjoy this year's Spring Eggstravaganza on March 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
at Robin Williams Meadow (formerly Sharon Meadow) in Golden Gate Park. This annual
family-friendly event features egg hunts, carnival rides, games, live entertainment,
food trucks and the highly anticipated annual Rib Cook-Off between SF Rec and Park,
SF Fire, SF Police and other city departments!
Tickets are $10 at the door; children under 2 are free! Advance tickets are available

Moscone Playground Reopening Celebration on April 14
Moscone Playground is now open!To commemorate this milestone, join us for a community
fun day on Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Celebrate the recent improvements,
which include new playground equipment, a new dog play area, a mini bicycle pump
 track and resurfaced tennis courts! The project is funded by the City's parks bond,
general fund monies secured by former District 2 Supervisor and current Mayor Mark
Farrell, as well as generous donations from Linda and Tom Coates and San Franciscans
for Sports and Recreation. Groundbreaking of the Geneva Car Barn and Powerhouse!
This past Monday, March 19 we broke ground on the historic Geneva Car Barn and Powerhouse,
which will become a vibrant youth performing arts space in the Excelsior neighborhood
that will host a variety of youth arts classes in dance, theater, music, spoken

Recreation and Park Commission Approves Design for Francisco Reservoir
On Thursday, March 15 the Recreation and Park Commission approved the conceptual
 design to convert 4.5 acres of former reservoir to a brand new park located atop
of Russian Hill. Once completed, the Park will provide recreational opportunities
for a wide cross-section of visitors, including a multi-use main lawn, children's
playground, dog park, community garden, and several view terraces set along meandering
paths! Coastal Trail Improvements at Sharp Park Golf Course
We began our annual maintenance of the Coastal Trail located on the berm west of
 the Sharp Park Golf Course this past Monday, March 19. The purpose of this maintenance
work is to improve public safety and increase access to the Coastal Trail. The duration
of the maintenance efforts will take approximately two weeks and is expected to 
occur between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. During construction, recreational
use of the trail may be temporarily interrupted to ensure park user safety. For

Port of San Francisco's Heron's Head Park
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Meet at Jennings Street off of Cargo Way
Join us as we team up with the Herons Head Eco Center for Science Saturday! We will
walk along the Beautiful San Francisco waterfront and Bay Trail, bird watching and
socializing. We will also visit the Eco Center for a fun lesson or two in sustainability.

Awa-Odori Dance Performance at the Japanese Tea Garden on March 25
Join the dancing group, Sakura-Ren for their performance of the Awa-Odori at the
 Japanese Tea Garden (75 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive) on Sunday, March 25 from 1 to
2:30 p.m. The Awa-Odori dance, which features live music and vocals, is one of "Bon-Odori",
traditionally mourning death and celebrating the spirit of ancestors every summer.
The greatest part of Awa-Odori is its main philosophy that everybody is welcome 
to dance and have fun together!
