Bi-Rite Cafe Opening at Civic Center Plaza on October 23
Responding to the community's desire for more fresh food options at their neighborhood
park, Bi-Rite Cafe (52 Grove Street) will open its doors in the Civic Center Plaza
this month, serving up soft serve ice cream, healthy food, and a lively gathering
space.  Neighbors are invited to its opening celebration on Tuesday, October 23 
from 4 to 6 p.m. featuring passed bites and community. The opening of the café is
the latest attraction transforming the area into a destination for neighborhood

Scaregrove on October 26
Scaregrove returns to Stern Grove (19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard), on Friday, 
October 26 from 3 to 9 p.m. This year's event will feature a costume contest and
 parade, haunted houses, hay rides, carnival rides, giant inflatables, food for 
sale and live entertainment. $10 per person; children under 2 years old are free!

Coit Tower Celebrates its 85th Birthday!
This past Monday, October 8 we celebrated the 85th birthday of our very own Coit
 Tower! This iconic San Francisco building also received a big birthday present:
 it has been named a "nationally significant" historic place on the National Register
of Historic Places! A majestic fluted white column rising from the top of Telegraph
Hill, Coit Tower was built at the bequest of Lillie Hitchcock Coit, a true San Francisco
character and devoted patron of the city's firefighters. Since its completion in
 1933, the tower has been welcoming visitors and residents to marvel at the 360-degree
views of the City and the Bay offered by the Tower's observation deck. Read more

Walk to a Park Day on October 10
Today, October 10, we celebrated National Walk to a Park Day with the Trust for 
Public Land! Cities across the country promoted the campaign that everyone should
live within a 10-minute walk of a park. We celebrated by walking from the Tenderloin
Community School to the Helen Diller Civic Center Playgrounds, where the students

Garfield Pool Closure and Expanded Pool Hours
Garfield Pool will be closing for renovation on Monday, October 22. During the closure,
staff and resources from Garfield Pool will be reallocated to other city pools. 
We have expanded lap swimming hours at Coffman, North Beach, Sava and Hamilton pools.
In addition to these changes, we will also have no annual maintenance closures at
any pools while Balboa and Garfield are both under renovation. For more information

Jr. Warriors Registration Begins on October 11
Registration for the Junior Warriors Basketball League opens on Thursday, October
11 at 10 a.m. The league serves youth from kindergarten to 8th grade and begins 
on Thursday, January 10. Participants will learn to harness their inner Steph Curry

YSP Kick-off Series on October 12
