Bi-Rite Cafe Opening at Civic Center Plaza on October 23
Neighbors are invited to the opening celebration of the Bi-Rite Café in Civic Center
Plaza on Tuesday, October 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. featuring passed bites and community,
as well as FREE Zumba and the Bubble Guy! The opening of the café is the latest 
attraction transforming the area into a destination for neighborhood families and
tourists alike. The surrounding blocks host outdoor art, free performances, and 
weekly family friendly events. Bringing the café to Civic Center Plaza was a collaboration
between the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, The Trust for Public Land
and Civic Center Community Benefit District (CCCBD). Bi-Rite Market, the operator
of the new cafe, is a local family-owned institution since 1940. Funding for the
 cafe came from a $2 million Mercer Fund grant made in honor of Helen Diller, whose
family foundation also awarded the generous $10 million donation to fund the design
and construction of those two vibrant, state-of-the-art playgrounds at Civic Center

Scaregrove on October 26
Scaregrove returns to Stern Grove (19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard), on Friday, 
October 26 from 3 to 9 p.m. This year's event will feature a costume contest and

India Basin Open Space Place Moves Forward!
A plan to revitalize a network of waterfront open space in the city's southeast 
by rehabilitating and uniting several poorly conditioned existing open spaces into
a single, seamless design received approval by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors!
The India Basin waterfront project will combine 900 Innes Avenue, a long-vacant 
bayside lot the City acquired in 2014, with two existing parks that border it: India
Basin Shoreline Park and India Basin Shoreline Open Space, both of which would undergo
significant improvements. The resulting 8-acre waterfront park would connect the
 Bay Trail and provide open spaces, trails and unrivaled recreational opportunities
for residents! Photos from Big Truck Day 2018!
On October 10, city vehicles rumbled into McLaren Park for Big Truck Day! This free
event brought together city departments and organizations to show of their vehicles
that keep San Francisco running! More than 400 kids explored their favorite trucks

Halloween Events in our Parks!
In addition to Scaregove, we have numerous other Halloween events this October in
our parks and recreation centers including our FREE quarterly Zumba party tomorrow,

YSP Kick-off Series on October 18

(YSP), which engages youth from 2nd to 12th grades in environmental education and

Walk to a Park Day!
