									[54] Learning While Black: Community forum

Community members came together on Thursday, March 21, for a forum and roundtable discussion of what it takes to navigate San Francisco Unified School District’s Special Education system and to develop an action plan to support African American students with learning differences. Five people took part in a panel discussion about African American education experiences in SFUSD. The event also included lively roundtable discussions and a resource fair featuring many of the events cosponsors.

	[56] A ‘Week Without Walls’ opens the world up to students

Some 250 juniors at Phillip & Sala Burton Academic High School completed a week of work-based learning that placed them in professional settings throughout San Francisco — from consulting firms to tech offices and institutions like SF Jazz. The program, now its second year at the school, consists of two days of professional development workshops, a two-day off-campus placement with San Francisco companies, and a day of reflection during which students share their experiences with their classmates.

									[58] The youth climate strike as seen by teen photographers

WIRED hired two teenage photographers to cover the climate strikes in the US from their perspective: In Atlanta, 17-year-old Henry W. Grady High School senior Esme Bella Rice photographed the strike in front of the Georgia State Capitol building; and in San Francisco, 18-year-old Max Buenviaje-Boyd, a senior at Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, photographed the large march from the Federal Building at Civic Center through downtown to Union Square.

									[60] African American honor roll student says when teachers set the bar high, ‘you gotta go get it'

San Francisco Unified School District’s African American educators have been honoring the achievements of black students who earn a 3.0 grade point average or above for a quarter of a century. This year’s emcees, San Francisco Unified high school seniors Kamiah Brown and Benjamin Bennett, reflect on their inspiration, struggles, goals, and the importance of an event that celebrates black culture and achievement.

									[62] High school students get real world exposure to hospitality industry

Students from San Francisco Unified School District recently had the opportunity to explore career possibilities by trading their classroom for the lobby of the Omni Hotel in San Francisco. As KCBS's Margie Shafer reports, experiential learning like this is helping to prepare students for college and beyond.
