Isley Brothers to Play Big Picnic to Close 82nd Season of the Stern Grove Festival
Outside Lands might be over, but it doesn't mean that there is a shortage of music
in our parks.
This Sunday, August 18, the 82nd season of the Stern Grove Festival will close with
its annual Big Picnic benefit concert featuring the legendary Isley Brothers. We
 look forward to their classics such as "Shout," and "It's Your Thing." Tickets 
are sold out for Big Picnic reserved seating, but admission to the concert is free
and open to the public, with seating in the meadow first come, first served. For

12th Annual Outside Lands Wrap Up
This past weekend, the 12th annual Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival descended
upon Golden Gate Park. The three-day music festival featured 80 local restaurants,
46 wineries, 30 breweries, local art, comedy and a speaker series, and was headlined
this year by Twenty One Pilots, Childish Gambino and Paul Simon. Outside Lands has
become woven into the fabric and culture of San Francisco with more than 2 million

Phil Ginsburg Appointed to State Commission
Phil Ginsburg, general manager of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department
for the past decade, will bring his expertise to the state park system as well. 
Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Ginsburg, 52, to the California State Park and Recreation
Commission, the governor's office announced Tuesday afternoon. Ginsburg will continue
to lead SF Rec and Parks, a position he has held since 2009. For more information,

Julius Kahn Playground Renaming Proposal
Join us tonight, August 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a community meeting to discuss
the renaming of Julius Kahn Playground. The meeting will take place at the park's
clubhouse (West Pacific Avenue and Spruce Street), where the recommended replacement
name will be presented with the opportunity for public comment.

Herz Playground Meeting on August 17
We will be holding the second meeting for the Herz Playground renovation project
 this Saturday, August 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Herz Clubhouse (1701 Visitacion
Avenue). This project is a part of the Let'sPlaySF! Richmond Rec Center Closed August 19 to 30
The Richmond Recreation Center will be closed beginning this Monday, August 19 to
Friday, August 30 to replace the fire sprinkler heads throughout the facility. Nearby
recreation centers include Hamilton (1900 Geary Boulevard), Moscone (1800 Chesnut
Street) and Sunset (2201 Lawton Street.)

Mission Rec Girls Basketball Tryouts in August
Our Mission Recreation Center (MRC) Rebels girls basketball program will be holding
tryouts for its upcoming Fall/Winter 2019-20 seasons! Tryouts will take place on
 Tuesday, August 27; Thursday, August 29; and Wednesday, September 4 from 5:30 to
7:30 p.m at Mission Recreation Center (2450 Harrison Street.) The MRC Rebels girls
basketball program is an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) program offered by our department
for 4th to 8th graders over the past 30 years, with teams competing in AAU tournaments
nationwide! Jimi Crowley Photograph Exhibit Opening Reception on August 15

Kidz Fest in McLaren Park on August 25

SF City Open on Labor Day Weekend
With the current renovation of the Golden Gate Park Tennis Complex, the 118th Annual
San Francisco City Open and National Tennis Rating Program championships will be
