Enjoy Summer Programming Before Fall Begins!

In just a short while, we’ll be saying farewell to our intrepid summer youth volunteers as we wind up another fun summer presenting our popular programs! There’s still time before the end of summer to experience all we have to offer and while we’re at it, let’s give a big hand to our teens, great job!

Wildlife Theatre Shows: Enjoy a variety of ambassador animals from the Koret Animal Resource Center that will engage and educate you and your family about animal adaptations and conservation. Shows Thursday-Sunday at 1:30 pm.

Nature Trail: Stroll along Nature Trail and interact with more than a dozen animals up close! Youth volunteers staff each animal station to deliver fun facts and conservation stories. Open 11:00 am - 3:30 pm on weekends through Labor Day.

Talk on the Wild Side: Learn from teen volunteers as they utilize biofacts carts at animal exhibits daily around the Zoo.

While people outside of San Francisco are cranking up their air conditioning, we are lucky to be one of the only zoos in the world next to a beautiful and cool coastline! As summer comes to a close, visit SF Zoo to cool off and meet various animals up-close. On Saturday and Sunday, August 24 & 25, we are excited to introduce "Mimosa Mornings." There will be a bar set up in front on Lemur Cafe and you can enjoy the sights and sounds of SF Zoo while sipping on a mimosa (or two) with live Flamenco music to set a great tone for the day!

The master storytellers at Disney breathe new life into one of their most beloved tales with this modern, visually dazzling spin on The Lion King.  Join us on August 22 at Alamo Drafthouse for a special viewing of The Lion King.  We are thrilled to announce that our very own Assistant Curator of Carnivores, Ashleigh Lutz-Nelson, will give a presentation on the Protect the Pride campaign before the show. Tickets on sale soon.

Young Zoologists Registration Opens 8/15!

Registration for the 2019-2020 session of Young Zoologists opens on Thursday, August 15! Young Zoologists is a drop-off program for kids 5-7 years-old and meets once a month on Saturdays. Each class focuses on a specific animal classification, habitat, or continent and includes crafts, games, Zoo walks, STEAM activities, and Keeper Chats. Do you know a budding conservationist between the ages of 11 and 14? Come to our orientation (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=4bd818364a&e=7683a9aed3) on Saturday, August 17th to learn how to join our Zoo Crew! Crew members work hands-on with rangers, biologists, and horticulturists at Lake Merced, Mountain Lake, and the San Francisco Zoo to restore local habitat, learn about our very own wild places and wild things, and get dirty! Join us at 10:00am in the Lurie Education Center to learn all about the program and how to apply. The orientation is free to attend and does not require admission or RSVP. Please note that we encourage prospective volunteers and a parent/guardian to attend together, and that parking is not included. Questions?
