Kia ora,

Booking for rooms and apartments for all CoNZealand members is now open.

This email provides the booking links and codes for each location and repeats the accessible information about each hotel / apartment block. Please note, this is a long email as we wanted to send all of the information directly to you; we encourage you to read it carefully.

You do not need to use any of these venues - if none suit your needs there are also a range of AirBnB and other short-term rental options in Wellington, as well as backpackers/hostels, and other serviced apartments.

Note that two hotels - The James Cook and Novotel, have elevators that go directly from Lambton Quay to each building, avoiding the steep climb and considerably shortening the distance from each hotel to the convention.

All hotel rates are based on 1-2 people per room. Surcharges may apply for more occupants unless otherwise stated (or if the room/apartment is specifically designed for more than 2 occupants).

** Shoulder Nights Bookings
------------------------------------------------------------
We have tried to negotiate shoulder nights where possible, however these are variable. If your booking does not allow shoulder nights (usually the online booking will refuse the code or say it is unavailable over those dates), we recommend booking the nights within the discount that you can, and then contacting us at Housing at conzealand.nz (mailto:Housing at conzealand.nz) with your additional requirements. We will contact the hotel. Please note that we cannot guarantee that rooms will be available or that the discount will be applied to them.

** ‘Closest Hotels’
------------------------------------------------------------
CoNZealand will use function space in two locations, approximately 600 metres / 660 yards apart. The route between the two locations is fairly flat, and is mobility accessible (kerb cuts, ramps, etc).

The TSB Arena/Shed 6 will contain most of the day time programming, the exhibits area (including dealers and art show), registration, and most of the offices associated with those functions. There will also be programming in the Intercontinental Hotel, which is about 200 metres from the closest door of TSB. The Intercontinental Hotel is the closest hotel to TSB.

There are also several other hotels at various price points that are near the TSB Arena/Shed 6.

The Michael Fowler Centre (MFC) will contain the main evening activities (including opening/closing ceremonies, the Hugo ceremony, and the Masquerade). Public parties will also be in the MFC in the evening. Children’s Programming will be held there during the day, and Kaffeeklatsches/Literary Beers are also planned to be held there. The West Plaza Hotel, which is adjacent to the MFC, will have the Business Meeting, Gaming, and Filk. The West Plaza hotel is the closest to the MFC.

If proximity to the function space is your primary concern, we recommend that you pick a hotel close to the items you will attend most frequently.

**
Payment
------------------------------------------------------------
For most of the hotels, a credit card will be needed to guarantee the reservation, and, depending on the hotel, a one or more night charge will be placed against the card at the time of booking.

The hotels generally have surcharges for credit cards. How much the surcharge will be varies by hotel, and by which credit card is used. It’s typically in the 1.5-4% range. Some of the hotels/apartments are able to take payment by bank transfer at checkout, but this usually only applies for members with NZ bank accounts.

In general, most hotel room bookings will be unable to be cancelled at two months out from the first date of the reservation, and the card on file may be charged for the full duration. This is important to keep in mind when planning – after a certain date it will be expensive to change your plans. Where there are exceptions (whether those exceptions concern dates or charges) they are noted in the details for each hotel.

For some hotels there is a discount code that will give you a certain percentage below normal rates rather than a set rate.

Reduced Mobility Support
------------------------------------------------------------
There are a number of hotels that have rooms with support for those with reduced mobility, as outlined below.

Intercontinental Hotel (closest to the TSB Arena/Shed 6)
All deluxe (50) and club rooms (25) are accessible, with roll in showers. However, not all have grab bars - please specify if you need these in your booking. Shower stools can also be provided. Standard rooms at this hotel have tub showers.

West Plaza Hotel (closest to the MFC)
There are 6 accessible rooms, which are fully accessible with roll in showers. There are fire doors in the hotel corridors which swing both ways, and can be pushed open by a mobie. Other rooms at this hotel have a mixture of lip and tub showers.

Ibis Hotel (close to the Intercontinental Hotel)
There are 9 accessible rooms with roll in showers. Other rooms at this hotel have a mixture of lip and tub showers.

Novotel Hotel
6 accessible rooms with roll in showers. Other rooms at this hotel have a mixture of lip and tub showers.

Sofitel
6 accessible rooms with roll in showers.

Doubletree
A number of accessible rooms with walk-in showers, however the elevator is not wide enough to fit a mobility scooter (mobie) through the doors, and as a heritage listed building, the hotel is unable to modify this. This hotel is suitable for those with only a mild mobility impairment (e.g. cane / crutches / walker) or possibly a narrow manual wheelchair, but definitely unsuitable for standard width wheelchair / mobie users.

Mercure Apartments
A number of accessible rooms with roll in showers, grab bars and wall attached foldable shower seat.

All the hotels have fridges, but many charge a fee (varying from $5 - $10) to have the mini-bar items cleared from the fridge. None of these hotels have kitchen facilities (microwave, etc). See below for apartments.

When you book with the hotel, it will be important to note your specific access requirements - eg mobie access / walk in shower / roll in shower / grab bars / etc, so the hotel can best match you with a suitable room.

** Kitchen Facilities
------------------------------------------------------------
All the hotels have fridges, but many charge a fee (varying from $5 - $10) to have the mini-bar items cleared from the fridge.

Of the hotels only the City Life has kitchen facilities, with some one bedroom executive rooms containing a queen bed and full kitchenette.

There are several serviced apartment options, all with kitchen facilities, however none of these are considered fully accessible due to the approach (steps / uneven hill) or lack of onsite personnel. They may be suitable for those with a mild mobility impairment (e.g. cane / crutches) but we consider them generally unsuitable for wheelchair / mobie users. If you require both wheelchair / mobie access and kitchen facilities, please reply to let us know and we can give you more specific information about the mobility issues with each of these, for you to judge their suitability for you.
