Holiday Craft Fair on December 8
Our holiday craft fair at the Harvey Milk Center for the Arts (50 Scott Street) 
is on Sunday, December 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.! The free event will allow you to
shop for one-of-a-kind unique holiday gifts from a variety of craft vendors. The
 event is free to the public with popcorn, hot cider, a holiday photo booth and 
an interactive kids arts & crafts table in addition to the crafts for sale. For

Uncle John's Tree Lights Up for the Holidays
Following a countdown led by Mayor London Breed, the San Francisco Recreation and
Park Department turned on the holiday cheer this week, along with 550 dancing lights
illuminating the city's official holiday tree.
The 90th annual Holiday Tree Lighting, a celebration with free activities and live
entertainment for San Francisco families, took place at McLaren Lodge in Golden 
Gate Park. Children and their families turned out to decorate cookies, visit with
Santa, enjoy food trucks from Off-The-Grid, and dance along to live music.
The lit-up tree, surrounded by a decorative children's train, is a Monterrey Cypress
planted over a century ago by the city's first park superintendent, John McLaren.
Around it, families gathered in Santa's Workshop for arts and crafts, played interactive
games in Imagination Playground, and reveled in the holiday spirit with sledding,
free carnival games, hockey, and a rock-climbing wall. For more information, click

Washington Square Park is Back
City officials and neighborhood residents today celebrated the re-opening of iconic
Washington Square Park- now greener, drier and more accessible after a $3 million
water conservation project that will save 2 million gallons each year. The 2.26-acre
park in the heart of North Beach replaced its 65-year-old drainage system with weather
sensing irrigation, permanently transforming it from greedy guzzler to sensible 
sipper. The overhaul also includes new drought-tolerant landscaping. Accessible 
pathways were added through funding secured by District 3 Supervisor Aaron Peskin.

Rec & Park Wins Big with SF Beautiful Awards
We are happy to share that a number of our parks, staff and partners have recently
won awards from San Francisco Beautiful. Staff who won awards include our Director
of Partnerships Lisa Bransten and Jim Jackson for his work with our Permits and 
Reservations team. Amy Cohen, of the Office of Economic and Workforce Development,
won an award as well for her work in the Civic Center area. The Phil Arnold/Oak 
Woodland Trail Improvement Project also won the best public program award. For the

Holiday Caroling Party on December 10

Marina Holiday Event on December 13
The San Francisco Marina Small Craft Harbor (3950 Scott Street) will be holding 
its traditional lighted boat parade and holiday party on Friday, December 13 from
4 to 8 p.m. Come out for family fun at this event that will feature refreshments,
a holiday train and Santa! There will also be donation bins for the San Francisco
Fire Department's annual toy drive so bring a new unwrapped toy. See you dockside!
