In honor of our loyal Members, we are hosting a special Members Appreciation Morning this Saturday, February 23 from 9 to 10 a.m. Enjoy complimentary coffee, tea or hot chocolate and some great morning Zoo time exclusively as Zoo Members. As a special treat, we are opening the new Great Ape Passage early for you to see our chimpanzees in their indoor day room. See the chimps up-close (and they will see you too!) as one of our animal care experts answers your questions. Enjoy free early ride time on our historic Dentzel Carousel and Little Puffer train. It’s our thanks to you and your continuing support of our mission to connect, care and conserve!
Science Saturday: The Plight of Monarch Butterflies

Western monarch populations have declined 97% since the 1980’s.  In 2018, the western monarch overwintering count dropped from ~200,000 butterflies to less than 30,000.  Join Angela Laws of The Xerces Society this Saturday at 1 pm in the Osher Great Hall as she presents "Western Monarch Ecology and Conservation. (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=e2f62ec96c&e=7683a9aed3) " We'll discuss the basic ecology of monarchs, the reasons why their numbers are declining, and actions that people in the Bay Area can take to help protect this iconic species.

Interested in animals, science, or working with children? Want to spend your summer at the San Francisco Zoo? Join us for a free teen volunteer orientation (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=fb7d509d4f&e=7683a9aed3) to learn how! Orientations for our popular Nature Trail program, for teens 12-14 years old, will be held on 2/24 and 3/2 at 10 am. Orientations for our Talk on the Wild Side and Zoo Teacher Assistant programs, for teens 14-17 years old, will be held those same dates at 1 pm.

We want your SF Zoo memories for a SF Zoo Life display that will be part of an overall 90th Anniversary exhibit and for use as #TBT (Throw Back Thursday) social media posts. Video and digital photos can be emailed to marketing at sfzoo.org (mailto:marketing at sfzoo.org) , posted on social media with the hashtag, #SFZoo90. Additionally, photographs can be mailed to, San Francisco Zoo 90th Anniversary, 1 Zoo Road, San Francisco, CA 94132. Submissions should come with a brief description, including the year the photo was taken. Please note that the Zoo may not be able to send back the original, so a copy would be best.
