San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department 2018 Community Report
Happy 2019! As we begin the new year, we'd like to share some of our recent accomplishments

Some highlights include 252,000 volunteer hours committed to our parks and programs
as well as 145,000 permits issued for events. We also kick started campaigns to 
renovate 13 city playgrounds and the 124-year-old Golden Gate Park Tennis Center,
while our partnerships helped transform Civic Center Plaza into a bustling, family-friendly
destination! Thank you to everyone who made 2018 such an amazing year and we look
forward to getting outside with you in 2019!

I Left My Park in San Francisco Podcast Episode: Ladies' Night
Check out the newest episode of our podcast, I Left My Park in San Francisco, as
 we hit the boxing ring for Ladies' Night. For nearly a decade, a committed group
of women have been boxing on Tuesday nights at the Mission Rec Center. The class
 is an alternative to the coed group, where women create their own, machismo-free
space to train and learn technique. The program's shining star emeritus is Raquel
"Pretty Beast" Miller, who was first a student, then an instructor at Mission Rec.
Now one of the top boxers in the country, Raquel Miller is currently training to
 compete for a World Title. Camp Mather Lottery Registration Open!
Registration for the Camp Mather lottery is currently open and runs through Sunday,
January 13. This early registration will help us to share results by early March!
Please note the rules and reservation process have been changed and updated for

In addition, registration for the Senior Mather Get-Away for the summer of 2019 
will take place this coming March with the Get-Away slated for the week of August
18, 2019. If you had a reservation in 2018, but could not attend due to the Ferguson
fire, you will be contacted this  February/March regarding priority registration.

Kezar Drive Lane Closure from January 7-10
Beginning next Monday, January 7, on Kezar Drive, one westbound traffic lane and
 pedestrian sidewalk will be closed. They will reopen on Friday, January 11. This
closure is to accommodate a concrete pour that is a part of the Alvord Lake bridge
repair project. Please note that there may be increased traffic through this area

Sava Pool Closure and Expanded Pool Hours
This past week, a failed boiler caused water temperatures to dip to uncomfortable
levels at Sava Pool. While at these temperatures, Sava Pool will be closed. We anticipate
completion of repairs in the coming weeks. Nearby pools will have expanded hours
 to accommodate swimmers. Hellman Hollow Restroom Closed from January 5-6
This Saturday, January 5, PG&E will be doing a shutdown on the circuit that serves
the Rainbow Falls pump station and the Hellman Hollow restrooms. During this time,
the restrooms will be closed. Once  the restoration of power and proper operation
is confirmed on Sunday, January 6, we will reopen the restrooms to the public.

Job Fairs in January!
San Francisco Recreation and Parks, along with other government agencies and community
organizations will host a series of three Saturday job fairs this month from 10 
a.m. to 1 p.m! The first will be this Saturday, January 5 at Joseph Lee Rec Center,
followed by January 12 at Hamilton Rec Center, and January 26 at the County Fair
 Building in Golden Gate Park. Job training resources and information will also

Winter Exhibit at Harvey Milk Photo Center

Ropes Course Coming to McLaren Park!

John McLaren Park into a high ropes challenge focusing on leadership and character
development for local youth and others! A project of SF Rec and Parks and Outward
Bound California, the ropes course is estimated to be completed by May 2019. The
 course will serve both public and educational community group recreation for youth
and adults.
