Fall Class Registration Kicks Off on August 3

It's hard to believe we're already halfway done with summer, but registration for
fall classes is coming up! Registration opens THIS Saturday, August 3, starting 
at 10 a.m. From adult volleyball at Glen Canyon Recreation Center to flag football

Hayes Valley Playground Reopens with Fresh Look!
Renovated sport courts, including a unique basketball court that doubles as colorful
street art, opened amid a community celebration at the Hayes Valley Playground this
past Monday. Improvements to the basketball court, including a colorful court mural
by San Francisco street artist Apexer, resurfacing, and new hoops and backboards,
were funded with a $99,500 grant from the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation (KDCF)
 through its Build It and They Will Ball initiative, and support from Airbnb co-founder
Joe Gebbia. The project also includes a resurfaced tennis court and fencing improvements
funded through the Recreation and Park Department's budget.

Adaptive Bike Share Now in Golden Gate Park!
This past Sunday was the first day of a new, weekly program in Golden Gate Park.
 People with mobility-related disabilities can ride on a variety of three-wheelers,
hand-cycles and side-by-side tandem bikes provided by the Bay Area Outreach & Recreation
Program (BORP), headquartered in Berkeley. Lyft and Bay Wheels also sponsor the 
activity. You can bike during our car-free Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with bikes

City Visions: The Rising Cost of Childcare

Getting Around Outside Lands
As we close out July, we look ahead to August with Outside Lands right around the
corner! This annual music and arts festival will take place on the weekend of August
9 in Golden Gate Park at the Polo Field, Hellman Hollow, and Marx and Lindley Meadows.

Playground Renaming Proposal
Last year, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 175-18 
urging the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission to rename Julius Kahn Playground.
A neighborhood survey and process was completed and a recommendation for the replacement
name was made. Join us on Wednesday, August 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Julius 
Kahn Clubhouse (West Pacific Avenue and Spruce Street), where the recommended replacement
name will be presented with the opportunity for public comment.

Camp Mather currently has a limited number of cabins and tent sites available for
the Week 10 (August 4 to 10) and Week 11 (August 11 to 17) sessions! If interested,

Harvey Milk Photo Center Exhibits this August!
We have a couple of new exhibits from the Harvey Milk Photo Center coming to our
 parks this month! The first is Lawrence Felinghetti's When We Arrived in Normandy,

a 100 year old World War 2 veteran that fought in Normandy on D-Day. He will be 
sharing his war photos, which have never been shown to the public.
The second exhibit is by Jimi Crowley, a native San Franciscan artist who has worked
for 40 years as a photographer/videographer/video producer. His exhibit, From the

National Night Out on August 6

Join us and V-O-Cal (Volunteers for Outdoor California) for the weekend of August
16-18 to build and restore trails in McLaren Park. This unique experience allows

time outdoors! Trail work is all day Saturday and a half-day Sunday, with optional

Nature Play Day on August 28
Join us for a day of exploration, creativity and play in nature on Wednesday, August
