World Giraffe Weekend: June 21-23

In honor of World Giraffe Day (June 21), an annual event to celebrate the longest-necked animal on the longest day of the year, join us as we celebrate our herd and raise awareness about the challenges giraffe face. There will be giraffe feedings from 11 am - 1 pm (a portion of the proceeds going to the Reticulated Giraffe Project), a special Animal Care Team Demonstration at 2:30 pm, and Giraffe Lodge Open House at 4:30 pm!

This week marks the Summer Solstice, and our amazing animals (along with the rest of us) will be out and about at San Francisco Zoo and Gardens!

Did you know that some of our animals have the option to be outside after the Zoo closes, enjoying the longer daylight hours? From flamingos to penguins to grizzly bears to our big cats (including our one-year-old snow leopard cubs!), our focus on enrichment and wellness for all of our animals includes giving them the choice to decide where they want to be on the day of the year with the most hours of sunshine!

Providing this choice and enrichment for our animals is a critical part of the San Francisco Zoological Society’s mission to connect people with wildlife, inspire caring for nature, and advance conservation action. Yum! Free Samples Friday & Saturday!

Join us on Friday and Saturday, June 21 & 22 as we welcome the Kewpie Food Truck, who will be handing out free samples of their mayo and sesame dressing products. Visit them at the Entry Village circle on Friday, or the Playfield area on Saturday.
90 Years of Hanging Out

Come hang out with us this summer! Enter to win a perfect summer hang out for your child, a spot in one of our Little Learners (18 months – 3 ½ year olds + 1 adult) or Animal Adventures (3 – 5 year olds + 1 adult) classes. These year-round classes, filled with music, crafts, games, and an education animal visitor, are an exciting way to jump, hop, and skip through the animal kingdom. To enter, please email toddlers at sfzoo.org with your name, your child’s age, and email address. Names will be compiled and winners drawn each week during the month of June.

Wildlife Theatre Shows Return 6/20!

* Wildlife Theatre Shows Return! Enjoy a variety of ambassador animals from the Koret Animal Resource Center that will engage and educate you and your family about animal adaptations and conservation. Shows daily at 1:30 pm.
* Nature Trail Now Open! Stroll along Nature Trail and interact with more than a dozen animals up close! Youth volunteers staff each animal station to deliver fun facts and conservation stories.11:00 am - 3:30 pm daily.
* Talk on the Wild Side Returns! Learn from teen volunteers as they utilize biofacts carts at animal exhibits daily around the Zoo.
* Life on the Farm.  Don’t miss the special Life on the Farm talk in front of the Insect Zoo Thursday-Monday at 3:15! You have the chance to meet our farm animals like kune-kune pig, miniature horses and more!

Celebrating 90 Years!

This July, we invite you to celebrate with us! Join us every weekend in July (4-7, 13-14, 20-21, 27-28) for live music in The Depot where you can enjoy an outdoor BBQ with your family and friends and stay to enjoy the ambiance.  Don’t miss the special historical display in the Pachyderm Building featuring early Zoo photographs and fun facts about the Zoo and in pop culture in the many decades since the Zoo’s opening in 1929. We’re also featuring both self-guided and guided tours highlighting our rich history. There’s lots of things to do, sights to see, and new animals to meet as we celebrate 90 years!
