Potrero Hill Rec Center Plaque Dedication on November 19
Join us on Tuesday, November 19 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Potrero Hill Recreation 
Center outdoor courts (801 Arkansas Street) for a special plaque unveiling and celebration
of recent court improvements! The event will feature tennis and basketball activities

Panhandle Playground Celebrates Renovation
With new equipment to spark imagination, fresh surfaces for jumping and running,
 and innovative features to explore music and sound, the renovated Panhandle Playground
opened amid a community celebration this week. The transformed Panhandle Playground
includes a sandbox in which children can dig for built-in sea treasures, multiple
climbing surfaces, two swing sets, an area for older and younger children, and reservable
picnic tables. The use of natural materials like boulders and wood allows the new
playground to blend into the area, which is home to 80 species of trees.
On the count of Mayor London Breed, children from Stepping Stones Preschool whooshed
down one of the playground's two new slides alongside District 5 Supervisor Vallie
Brown. The ceremony also included the unveiling of a memorial bench for Konstantinos
"Gus" Vardakastanis, the late owner of Gus's Community Market who was beloved by
 the Panhandle community for his generous spirit.
Panhandle Playground is among 13 renovations across the city supported by the Let'sPlaySF!
campaign, a partnership between the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department
 and the San Francisco Parks Alliance. Panhandle is the second playground to be 
completed after Washington Square Playground in North Beach, which opened in January.

Silver Terrace Athletic Fields Reopen
Bayview neighbors and city officials celebrated the completion of a major overhaul
of Silver Terrace Playground's athletic field. We replaced the 13-year-old synthetic
turf on the 145,000 square foot field, which includes a soccer pitch and two baseball
diamonds. Other improvements include new soccer goals, backstops, gates, a drinking
fountain with a water bottle filler and more. Bayview United, an SF Rec and Park
 youth soccer team, held a ceremonial first kick with District 10 Supervisor Shamann
Walton in goal to commemorate this occasion last week. For more information, click

SFYBL Registration on November 16
San Francisco Youth Baseball League (SFYBL) individual registration begins on Saturday,
November 16 at 10 a.m. The league, a collaboration between Rec and Park and the 
San Francisco Fire Department's FLAME Program, serves boys and girls ages 4 to 14
in six age-based divisions with the season beginning in March of 2020. Fees cover
coaches, games, practices and uniforms. Merced Heights Meeting on November 20
In June, Assemblymember Phil Ting secured a $1.37 million grant to improve the multi-purpose

Winter Park at Civic Center Plaza Opens November 22
Last year's winter-themed park and ice skating rink is returning to Civic Center
 Plaza! The kick-off event for Winter Park will be on Friday, November 22. The park
will feature an ice rink and 400-foot skating track that will weave ice skating 
fun through a lighted tree forest. Holiday Craft Fair on December 8
Our holiday craft fair at the Harvey Milk Center for the Arts (50 Scott Street) 
is coming up on Sunday, December 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m! The free event will allow
