Reindeer arrive this Saturday!

Santa is sending his favorite reindeer THIS WEEKEND to San Francisco Zoo & Gardens! Beginning Saturday, November 23, three majestic reindeer will be romping at our Playfield Lawn, near the spectacular Elinor Friend Playground. Reindeer are the only species where both males and females grow antlers. Unlike horns, antlers are made of bone and fall off every year.  Come see what reindeer eat on Thanksgiving Day!

As a thank you, when you visit our reindeer between November 23-December 1, you will have a chance to win a blu-ray combo pack of Dora and the Lost City of Gold!

It’s the most magical time of the year at San Francisco Zoo & Gardens! Another kudu calf and it's a girl!

Our one-month-old male kudu calf continues to do well and can be seen exploring the African Savanna with the other kudu and can often be seen lying down or grazing.  And speaking of kudu calves, we’re excited to announce the birth of a second greater kudu, and it’s a girl! The calf was born late October to mother “Carmela” and father “Tony.” This is Carmela’s first calf she is taking great care of her new little one. Come see our growing herd this Thanksgiving!
