EcoCenter Playday on September 28
In honor of National Public Lands Day, join us for our EcoCenter Playday this Saturday,

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass on October 4 to 6
The summer music festival season might be over, but we have another weekend concert
series coming to Golden Gate Park. The FREE Hardly Strictly Bluegrass music festival

Lawn Bowling National Championships in Golden Gate Park This Week
This past Monday, we kicked off the 2019 Lawn Bowling National Championships in 
a ceremony that marked the start of the tournament and the completion of renovations
to the facility. The top men and women bowlers in the country are competing at the
San Francisco Lawn Bowling Club (SFLBC) in Golden Gate Park through Friday, September
27. All competitions are free and open to the public for viewing. Be sure to check

In addition, a special open house for prospective bowlers ages 12 and up with free
lessons, short games, refreshments and clubhouse tours will be held on Sunday, September

Free Admission at City Pools Today
With temperatures reaching into the high 80s, the San Francisco Recreation and Park
Department is waiving admission fees to seven pools throughout the city today, September
25. Pools will keep at least one lane open to those seeking relief from the heat
 and offer free recreational and family swim at designated hours. The seven pools
include: Balboa, Coffman, Hamilton, Martin Luther King Jr., Mission, North Beach
 and Sava. Hiroshima Survivor Trees Planted in GGP
Two second generation sapling descendants of ginkgo trees that survived the nuclear
blast on Hiroshima were planted at the Japanese Tea Garden last week in a ceremony
that also honored former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz and Dame Charlotte
Malliard Shultz for their advocacy around nuclear disarmament. The trees join seeds
and saplings from the A-bombed trees growing in more than 20 countries as part of
the effort for a nuclear-free planet. West Portal Playground to Begin Construction
This past Saturday, we celebrated the upcoming renovation to West Portal Playground
with a park play day that featured Zumba, disc golf, a nature cart, free tacos/ice
cream and more! Thank you Asseblymember Phil Ting, Supervisor Norman Yee, the San
Francisco Parks Alliance and the Friends of the West Portal Playground for making
this possible! We look forward to reopening this playground next year.

Volunteer for Scaregrove on October 25
With October around the corner, we are getting ready for Scaregrove on Friday, October
25 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Stern Grove (19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard.) Help us throw

Marking Time Exhibit on September 26
The Bay Area Photographers Collective, a nonprofit organization dedicated to peer
learning and a diversity of photographic styles, will present its 20th anniversary
exhibition "Marking Time" at the Harvey Milk Photo Center (50 Scott Street) from
 September 26 through October 26, 2019.  The opening reception will take place tomorrow,
September 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. where the public can meet the artists and hear an 
introduction to the exhibition by its curator Meg Shiffler, galleries director,

Sundown Cinema on September 27
Sundown Cinema visits India Basin Shoreline Park this Friday, September 27. In partnership
with San Francisco Parks Alliance, Do The Bay and Alamo Drafthouse San Francisco,
we will be screening "Space Jam." In addition, the Golden State Warriors basketball
camp will be joining the fun and hosting a "Skills and Drills" session before the

African Arts Festival on September 29
Join Live from the Amp for its second show of the season on Sunday, September 29

Big Truck Day on October 2

highlights our first Nature Play Day from last month. From snakes to koi, we had
 an amazing day of exploration at Louis Sutter Playground in McLaren Park with hundreds
