HAPPY EARTH DAY!
Dear San Francisco Zoo & Gardens Family,

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and while we traditionally have acknowledged this important initiative with special activities at our Zoo, we know this year is very different.  But different doesn’t mean inactive. Even though SF Zoo is closed to the public, there still is a role for all of us to play in preserving and protecting the planet and its inhabitants. Just as we have seen with social distancing, our collective actions, however small, continue to make a difference!

Firstly, we encourage our younger enthusiasts to celebrate Earth Day and show their love for SF Zoo by posting photos of their favorite Zoo animal or animals in your own backyard or neighborhood.  Or if you love jigsaw puzzles, let's see a photo of an animal one you've finished! Tag us and use #LoveYourSFZoo and we will repost!

Secondly, any age can support important petitions and legislation:
* The Global Deal for Nature Petition (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=8e8ce36d53&e=7683a9aed3) calls on world leaders to protect and restore half of the Earth’s lands and oceans. By signing this petition, you join over 92 countries in this effort.
* Urge Congress and the White House to include $4 billion for AZA-accredited facilities and museums by signing your support (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=da51168c93&e=7683a9aed3) to the COVID-19 Relief and Economic Stimulus Legislation.

Lastly, we are grateful and appreciative of your support. Because of you, our animals and their care teams are in good health, but your donations are still very much needed.  As you know, our annual ZooFest gala, “Zoodio 54” – our largest fundraiser each year – had to be postponed. A highlight of ZooFest is always the live and silent auction, and today, we launch an online version of that auction here (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=f2f1e52e4d&e=7683a9aed3) .  We are starting with a daily launch of some very special, one-of-a-kind curated items that will only be available for a limited time, and will gradually launch the full auction over the next week. Please bid generously!
