New: Mobile Ordering at Lemur Café!

The Leaping Lemur Café is now open for take-out food and beverage items! In addition, we are thrilled to introduce mobile ordering featuring touchless payment and pickup. Western Pond Turtle Check-up

How do you tell the health of a turtle? Sometimes you have to look below the shell and that is not easy to do! Recently, some western pond turtles were brought to the hospital to get CT scans to make sure their shells are healthy before they are released into the wild. The wraps are to keep them still or else motion blurs the images. We are happy to say that our head-start turtles got clean bills of health in their CT scans, X-rays and health exams! They are ready to go back to the wild this summer and we are looking forward to watching them start their lives in their new homes.
New at SF Zoo!

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of a male kookaburra chick to parents Pam and Fred! This is extremely exciting because it is the first hatching of a laughing kookaburra at San Francisco Zoo & Gardens since 2006! The laughing kookaburra is the largest bird in the kingfisher family and is named for its distinctive vocalizations. They are native to the open woodlands and forests of Australia.
