Community Learning Hubs Prepare to Launch Following New Health Order
Mayor Breed and the Department of Public Health announced this week a new health
 order that will pave the way for San Francisco's children and youth to return to
some in-person activities. San Francisco will transform facilities around the city,
including recreation centers and libraries, into supervised Community Learning Hubs
to support distance learning for high-need San Francisco Unified School District
 students. The Hubs will begin operating on Monday, September 14 with enrollment

The Recreation and Park Department will be running and staffing these hubs, as well
as Emergency Child and Youth Care Program centers for healthcare workers serving
 the COVID-19 response and activated Disaster Service Workers, at 13 of our sites.
All of our recreation staff will be dedicated to staffing these sites until the 
San Francisco Unified School District resumes in-person learning. The hubs are available
to select families including: HOPE SF and public housing residents; SRO residents;
homeless youth; foster care youth; English language learners; African American, 
Latinx, Pacific Islander and low-income Asian families.
Our recreation centers citywide have been closed to the public and all programming
suspended, as dictated by the City's health orders. The only exceptions have been
for the 32 camps we held this summer. Additionally, as many as 37 sites were used
for emergency childcare for healthcare workers serving the COVID-19 response and
 activated disaster service workers this past spring. During this time, any unused
recreation centers will be maintained by our operations staff and will reopen for

Out of School Time and Childcare Programs for Youth in the Fall

these activities as "Out of School Time (OST)" programs and they are intended for
all children and youth in elementary school. The format of OST programs will be

Forest Hill Nature Exploration Area Opens
We're excited to share that a Nature Exploration Area (NEA) by the Forest Hill Muni
station is open! Made entirely of repurposed downed logs from our urban forestry
 team, this new area combines natural challenges and gathering spaces to ensure 
that children can play, learn, and grow outdoors.
The NEA was installed by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and SF
 Children and Nature. Children who experience nature as part of their daily lives
are healthier, happier, and more resilient, according to a growing body of research.

Youth Stewardship Program Internship Deadline Extended
Are you looking to work in our parks? Apply to be an Environmental Educator with
 our Youth Stewardship Program (YSP). Use your knowledge and passion for the outdoors
by leading field trips for youth, supporting our parks through volunteer days, developing

YSP served more than 2,000 student participants from 29 schools/organizations, while

Now Blooming at the Conservatory of Flowers: Terra the Titan
Terra the Titan, an Amorphophallus Titanum or "Corpse Flower," has bloomed for a
 second time at the Conservatory of Flowers this week! This flower, notorious for
its funky fragrance, first bloomed at the Conservatory in 2017. These plants take
an average of 7-10 years to bloom for the first time. After their initial bloom,
 they can re-bloom every 3-5 years thereafter.
While the Conservatory's galleries remain closed, they are hosting socially distanced,
outdoor viewings from their front doors. Health and safety are top priority and 
they've worked closely with local public health authorities to bring this special
viewing to you. Please follow local health and safety guidelines by maintaining

CAESAR MAXIMUS Production in Golden Gate Park on Video

Check out We Players' filmed production of CAESAR MAXIMUS that was set at the Music
Concourse in Golden Gate Park last year. The production uses the aesthetic language
of the original live performance to create a landscape of metaphor that investigates
exploitation of power, the danger of mob mentality and collective violence, as well

thanked our Park Rangers, who were at Dolores Park this weekend to ensure visitors
were compliant with the health order. Our Rangers talked to more than 8,000 visitors
and handed out around 3,000 masks. Let's make sure we keep wearing our masks outdoors
