Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks Entwined Opens as a part of Holiday Lights in Golden Gate Park Entwined, the highly anticipated outdoor public art installation in Golden Gate Park, is now open! No tickets or reservations are required to visit. What we’re doing to keep you safe: Ambassadors will be onsite after sundown to ensure social distancing. Lights will turn off at 8:30 p.m. to ensure compliance with the 10 p.m. curfew. Rangers will conduct outreach as necessary. Entwined may periodically go dark for short periods to prevent crowding. Entwined is outdoors and spread out over an acre of open space. However, consider employing one of these strategies while San Francisco remains in the purple tier: Delay your visit: Entwined will be in Golden Gate Park at least through February and will remain free. Consider visiting when the Covid-19 surge has subsided. If it’s crowded, come back later: Entwined is just one stop in an illuminated journey along JFK Drive. Golden Gate Park is now more illuminated than ever with new and old for the holidays. At the entrance to the park and along John F. Kennedy Drive, find two festive installations in addition to Entwined: San Francisco’s “official” holiday tree in front of McLaren Lodge, lit for the 90th year; and the kinetic light show on the Conservatory of Flowers’s iconic visage. From there, stroll to the Music Concourse to view the twinkling lights of the 150-foot-high Observation Wheel and the illuminated Spreckels Temple of Music and Bandshell. Holiday Lights in Golden Gate Park William Hammond Hall Awards Celebrates 12 Awardees In partnership with the Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 261, we virtually hosted the 12th Annual William Hammond Hall Awards yesterday. The awards recognize the top tradespeople in our Department. William Hammond Hall was a civil engineer and visionary who designed Golden Gate Park and became the city's first park superintendent in the 1870s. We named this award after Hall because of his vision for public parks and his understanding of how parks improve our health, happiness, and sense of community, something that is more important than ever during this pandemic. Today, our staff carry on Hall's legacy, implementing his vision of gardens and greenways across San Francisco. Congratulations to this year's 12 winners and thank you for all of your work ensure that our parks are available and safe for all to use during these challenging times. Thank you as well to Mayor London Breed and State Senator Scott Wiener for helping to recognize these awardees. Harvey Milk Photo Center Holidays at Home in San Francisco This holiday season, our choices matter. San Francisco is experiencing a major surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. While this is a time to celebrate with loved ones, it is not a normal holiday season. Our choices have a direct impact on how many people will get sick from COVID-19 this winter. Do your part this year, so we can come together next year. San Francisco will recover from this pandemic, but what that recovery looks like and how fast it comes is on all of us. Our individual actions to control the spread of the virus, to support our small businesses and to help our neighbors in need is the key to our City emerging from the pandemic. By confronting this challenge together, we will protect and build back the City we love.
