Historic Geneva Car Barn and Powerhouse Reborn as Youth Arts Hub
Work is complete on a meticulous renovation of the Geneva Car Barn and Powerhouse,
part of San Francisco's railway history in the Excelsior District, the San Francisco
Recreation and Park Department announced this week.
The historic landmark will open to the public as a hub for creativity, performance,
youth arts education and community connection when health orders allow. In the meantime,
Performing Arts Workshop, Rec and Park's programming partner, is offering online

The $14 million project on the Powerhouse portion represents the first of two phases
of improvements to the Geneva Car Barn and Powerhouse, which is made up of two adjoining
structures that served San Francisco's first electric streetcars: the single story,
3,000-square foot Powerhouse and the two-story, 13,000-square foot office building
known as the Car Barn. 2020 Health and Recovery Bond Update
The 2020 Health and Recovery Bond, which includes $239 million for parks projects,
received preliminary approval by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Tuesday.
 Supervisors, who voted unanimously in favor of the bond, will hold a second, final
hearing next week to place the measure on the November ballot.
The 2020 Health and Recovery Bond includes India Basin, Gene Friend Recreation Center,
Herz Playground Recreation Center, Buchanan Street Mall, and Japantown Peace Plaza.
Amendments to the initial bond proposal include improvements at Portsmouth Square,
Jackson Park, South Sunset Playground, and Richmond Senior Park (outdoor elements
near the GGP Senior Center).

SFO Museum #GGP150 Photo Exhibit
The SFO Museum
recently opened an exhibition of historical #GGP150 photographs by photographer 
R.J. Waters (1856-1937) of the early days of the park. Waters documented daily life
in Golden Gate Park, producing a portfolio of silver gelatin prints. These photos,
many over 120 years old, feature early scenes of park locations that are still recognizable
to today's visitors.

Virtual Stern Grove Festival and Free Educational Programming
Stern Grove Festival has gone virtual with its #BestoftheFest! Join its season host

Randall At Home: Ocean Week from July 17 to 26

Picnic at the Japantown Peace Plaza Starting July 18
Starting this Saturday, July 18 through September 27, Japantown's Peace Plaza will
be converted into an outdoor seating venue for individuals who want to eat their
 take-out meals purchased from Japantown dine-in restaurants! It will operate each
weekend from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is offered free of charge to customers who 
show a receipt documenting that their meal was purchased in Japantown. For more
