Visiting SF Zoo During Coronavirus Concerns
Precautionary Measures in Place

San Francisco Zoo & Gardens is open and taking a proactive approach to help slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. Our environmental services staff has increased its sanitation efforts in all indoor areas, including restrooms, indoor exhibit areas, while dining areas and the gift shop are also taking precautionary measures.

We are continuing to monitor any new developments and re-evaluating our steps and actions daily following the guidance and directives of the City of San Francisco’s Department of Public Health, the CDC and the World Health Organization as they share new information.

Visiting the Zoo

As recommended by city, state and federal health officials, we advise that you wash your hands, avoid touching any surfaces and do not touch your face, and sneeze or cough into your sleeve. We have hand sanitizer stations throughout the Zoo and standalone hand-washing stations at the Family Farm, and public restrooms throughout the Zoo.

We advise parents to bring their own sanitary wipes if they intend to ride the Little Puffer and Dentzel Carousel.

Indoor Habitats

While much of SF Zoo is open space, we are prepared to alter our programs and procedures, including the closure of indoor habitats, such as the South American Tropical Aviary Building, the California Conservation Corridor, the Insect Zoo and the Great Ape Passage dayroom. For now, these areas remain open.

Zoo Animals

We continue to monitor any reports from the CDC regarding animals and the novel coronavirus, and so far, there are no reports of transmission of the disease. We ask that you still take precautionary measures and good hygiene when in contact with any animal.
