April 4 GGP 150th Anniversary Celebration to be Rescheduled
We announced this week that Golden Gate Park's 150th parkwide birthday event on 
Saturday, April 4, 2020 is being rescheduled for a date later this year. The decision
was made following a March 7, 2020 public health order issued by the San Francisco
Department of Public Health that requires the postponement or cancellation of non-essential
group events at city-owned facilities until March 20, 2020.
Given the extensive planning, staging and teams of people required to execute a 
successful event on April 4, the Recreation and Park Department and San Francisco
Parks Alliance, who are jointly organizing the event, determined it would be best
to explore another date.
Planning for special exhibits and attractions happening throughout the year to celebrate
the park's sesquicentennial will continue. Urban Ag Resource Meeting on March 18
Join us on Wednesday, March 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Louis Sutter Roundhouse
(Wayland and University) for a community meeting to review the proposed project 
scope for an Urban Agriculture Resource Center to be located in the former stable
at Louis Sutter Playground. This will be an opportunity to learn about the proposed
program to support urban agriculture, home gardening and small animal husbandry 
in San Francisco. Note that this meeting is subject to change. Please contact our

SF Historical Society Essay Contest
In honor of the 150th anniversary of Golden Gate Park, the San Francisco Historical
Society is holding its second annual Fracchia Prize essay contest. The prompt is
 One Perfect Day in Golden Gate Park, where the contestant will choose a section
 of the park to explore and write a walking tour that stops at six to eight places,
telling the history of each stop. The first place prize is $2,500 and publication
in The Argonaut! Deadline for entry is Wednesday, April 15. For more information

47th Avenue Road Closure Begins March 16
>From Monday, March 16 through Thursday, March 19, we will be repaving approximately
25,000 square feet of pavement on 47th Avenue from Fulton Street to John F. Kennedy
Drive in Golden Gate Park. During this time, the road will be closed. Please use
 Chain of Lakes Drive or the Great Highway.

Civic Center Playground Closure on March 16
On Monday, March 16 we will be closing the Helen Diller Civic Center Playgrounds
 for repairs to the play structures. We anticipate the playgrounds being closed 
from the morning to early afternoon. Once complete, we'll have the playground ready
for you to get out and play this spring!

Trail Corps Volunteer Day on March 14
Calling all trail fans! Do you love hiking trails in San Francisco? Want to be part
of the team that builds and maintains your favorite trails in the city? The San 
Francisco Recreation and Parks Department's Urban Trails Program invites you to 
join us for monthly work parties, where you will gain valuable experience in the
 basics of trail maintenance. The next volunteer workday will take place on Saturday,

the Rose des Vents sculpture in Conservatory Valley from 2015. Over the next few
 weeks, the Conservatory of Flowers Valley will be closed intermittently to work
 on the foundation for the sculpture's new base and to install the refurbished sculpture.
Once the work is complete, this sculpture will have a permanent home in the park!
