Shout Out to Our Dedicated Animal Care Team!

All of us at the San Francisco Zoo and Gardens are grateful to the essential workers  — first responders, food and delivery employees, health care professionals, and others — who are on the frontlines of keeping us safe during the COVID pandemic.

Here at the SF Zoo, our essential workers are all of the staff who collectively ensure our 2,000+ animal residents’ daily care and wellness. This includes provision of specially-designed diets, from freshly cut vegetation and choice produce, to high protein meals and more to meet the diverse needs of our 250 animal species. Whether it is the provision of preventative care for our senior animals, creating enrichment, or managing complex introductions of animals like the new female gorilla to our existing troop, our professional staff is committed to animal care. Here’s to all of our staff, who provide exemplary service to our animals 365 days a year!

We Miss You!

With 100-acres of open space, SF Zoo is one of the largest outdoor venues in the City. We look forward to the time (hopefully very soon!) when we are given permission to re-open. We look forward to providing a safe and educational environment for you and your family to enjoy the great outdoors with plenty of space for social distancing!!!

In the meantime, we can’t say enough how much we miss you, and our animals miss you too! We asked our staff what they miss most during this closure and the responses have been unanimous:  Observing children in awe of our animals!

And while we miss you, we’re humbled that you miss us too.

We recently received an adorable letter from 8-year-old Dahlia and we are pleased to share it here.
