We are proud to provide our community a safe place to explore the outdoors and will continue to work to ensure your safety along with that of our staff and animals. As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, the protocols set by the public health officer, including mask requirements and social distancing, are more important than ever. A Zoo Visit is Good for Your Health

Do you ever wonder why your mood changes for the better when you see a wild animal in person? There is an excitement and an adrenaline rush that comes when you spot a bear being a bear or you see a family of great apes foraging for food. A visit to a zoo is actually beneficial to your health, according to a recent scientific study authored by Saint Louis Zoo. Their research concluded that naturalistic exhibits in zoos can elicit positive physiological and psychological changes in zoo visitors, even lowering the blood pressure of some visitors!

And our own non-scientific observations support these findings! We see the reactions of our guests enjoying a day at the Zoo, being among family, and seeing the delight of children as they experience our animals. So the next time you visit, take a deep breath and enjoy yourself, being here is good for your health!
Orangutan Caring Week

"Orangutan Caring Week" is an opportunity for us to raise awareness about the plight of this critically endangered species and their rainforest habitat. Wild orangutans face the constant pressure of extinction due to a variety of complicated issues including habitat loss and fragmentation, illegal poaching, and a high demand for palm oil for consumer products. As they cannot swim, they can become increasingly isolated in smaller and smaller patches of forest as palm oil plantations replace forest habitat.  This week, let’s ensure that our conservation efforts continue to help these majestic animals.
