Golden Gate Park Slow Streets Program Launches
Walkers, bikers, runners and skaters can now enjoy a virtually car-free route from
the east end of Golden Gate Park to the ocean.

Launched on September 18, Golden Gate Park Slow Streets provides the last link in
a protected path for cyclists stretching from the Ferry Building to the ocean by
 connecting to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's network of low-stress
bikeways, Slow Streets, and streets previously closed during the health emergency.

The closure will be in effect throughout San Francisco's Covid-19 response to provide
more space for people to enjoy socially distant recreation in nature.

Golden Gate Park Slow Streets begins at Stanyan Street and John F. Kennedy Drive
 East on the park's eastern tip, connecting with the stretch of JFK from Kezar Drive
to Transverse Drive that has been closed since April 28. The route will then continue
onto Overlook Drive, then Middle Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to Ocean
 Beach, where it will connect with the Great Highway, which has also been closed
 due to the pandemic, creating a continuous, family-friendly path from the Panhandle
to the San Francisco Zoo.

Twin Peaks Boulevard Changes
There are new changes to west side of Twin Peaks Boulevard. The Portola gate will
now open to vehicles from 6 p.m. to midnight, as of September 22. This was the result
of discussions between Supervisors Rafael Mandelman and Norman Yee, SFMTA, Rec and
Park, and SFPD on how best to balance the need for socially distant recreation with
neighborhood safety.  This solution preserves the street for vehicle-free recreation
during daylight hours. The eastern alignment of the road is a permanent road for
 pedestrians and bicyclists only. See above map for details.

Randall Museum Awarded $59k Community Challenge Grant
Great news! Randall Museum Friends has been awarded a $59,000 grant from the San
 Francisco Community Challenge Grant Program (CCG). The CCG provides resources to
community groups, businesses, schools and nonprofit organizations to make physical
improvements to their neighborhoods. The CCG focuses on projects that directly engage
residents and businesses in creating green spaces, gathering places, gardens, mini-parks,
public art, and other neighborhood amenities featuring and applying ecologically
 friendly amenities and practices.
The CCG funding will enable improvements to the Randall Museum's Energy Garden exhibit,
including an enhanced outdoor seating area and the addition of solar panels above
the exhibit's water catchment system. The new solar panels and the existing wind
 turbine will be connected to an inverter and store energy in batteries to run the
Redwood Trail exhibit inside the museum.
