MLK Pool & Park Survey Girls Baseball Thriving in the Bay Area The San Francisco Chronicle recently covered Bay Area girls thriving as high school baseball players. One of these articles focuses on Urban High School’s Oz Sailors, believed to be the only woman coaching varsity baseball in the country Yesterday, Oz's team faced off against Lick Wilmerding at the West Sunset baseball fields, where freshman Havanna Alcantar, an alumnus of our San Francisco Bay Sox girls baseball program, was starting at second base. Oz had coached Havanna at the first Baseball for All national tournament, the largest girls baseball tournament in our country's history. They were able to reunite before facing each other in the diamond, another historic milestone for girls baseball. Oz's coaching expertise was reflected in both dugouts, as Havanna collected a line drive hit down the right field line, knocking in two runs in the first inning!
