Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks  Indoor Vaccine Requirements As of August 20, all patrons of bars, restaurants, clubs, theaters, gyms, and large indoor events will be required to show proof of vaccination to enter. This will apply to our recreation facilities, which include, but are not limited to, our swimming pools and recreation centers. The new requirements do not apply to those who are ineligible for vaccinations, including children under 12 years old. For more information, click the link below. Indoor Vaccine Requirements East End of Stern Grove Closed & Stern Grove Festival Cancelled The east end of Stern Grove will be closed until further notice due to the damage sustained from a ruptured water main earlier this week. Pine Lake and its dog play area on the west end of the park have reopened for use. Stay tuned for more details as we continue to assess the damage. In addition, the final show of the season for Stern Grove Festival has been cancelled for this Sunday, August 29. For more information and updates, please visit their website at sterngrove.org. sfrecpark.org Nature Exploration Area Design Finalized for Heron's Head Park We're excited to share with you the final design for the Nature Exploration Area (NEA) at Heron's Head Park. The NEA will create a unique space that allows for active play, passive recreation, gathering with friends and family, and creates pockets for exploration to stimulate the senses and inspire imagination. Many thanks to those who shared ideas and provided feedback throughout the design process. Thank you as well to our project partners KABOOM!, Kaiser Foundation, The Port of San Francisco, Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds, and San Francisco Children and Nature. Nature Exploration Area Now Hiring: Environmental Educator Interns We are hiring Environmental Educator Interns to help lead our Youth Stewardship Program (YSP) this coming year, from November 2, 2021 to September 13, 2022. YSP is a free environmental education program offered to the San Francisco Unified School District and youth-serving organizations. Interns will lead youth on field trips to San Francisco parks to help them understand the role they play in building healthy social and natural communities. Virtual Teen Programming Manny's Discussion: What We Learned About our Parks on August 26 Swing by Manny's on Thursday, August 26 from 6 to 7 p.m. for a discussion on what we have learned about our parks during the pandemic. The discussion will feature San Francisco Recreation and Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg, who will talk about how the Department adapted to the challenges brought by the pandemic. The structure of this event will be about 45 minutes of discussion followed by small breakout groups where you can meet new people and talk about what you learned. SF Open at the Goldman Tennis Center from September 3 to 6 The historic San Francisco Open is returning to Golden Gate Park during Labor Day weekend from September 3 to 6 at the recently renovated Lisa and Douglas Goldman Tennis Center! This year's championships, hosted by the Tennis Coalition SF and USTA NorCal with funding from Taube Philanthropies, is the 120th anniversary of the tournament. It will, for the first time in decades, offer a purse to attract top women and men college players, emerging and past professionals, as well as recreational players. The meeting will take place at Skatin' Place (6th Avenue and JFK Drive) and will provide an opportunity to celebrate San Francisco's colorful roller skating culture by reviewing proposed designs for an upcoming art installation.
