Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks San Francisco Recreation and Parks Stands Against AAPI Hate Racially motivated attacks against our AAPI community have unfortunately existed in our country for generations, but we’ve seen a recent and disturbing surge in these attacks both nationally and locally. The AAPI community is part of the fabric of our City and our department, from park users, gardeners, rangers, recreation professionals, and members of our leadership team. We stand in solidarity with our AAPI community against hate. For more information and resources, click the link below. Stop AAPI Hate Indoor Swimming: Coming soon San Francisco’s arrival in the state’s Orange Tier means a return to limited indoor lap swimming with prior reservation, as well as some other programs. We are currently coordinating staffing and programming in an effort to get you back into the water at our eight indoor pools. We are anticipating our first openings to begin in mid-April, with all pools open by mid-June. We'll have more details including program information soon! In addition, stay up to date on what else is reopening in San Francisco at the link below. Reopening SF Funds Approved for New Rec Center for Sunnydale/Vis Valley The San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission last week approved the concept design for the new Herz Recreation Center Project, which includes a new 11,500 square foot recreation center with an indoor basketball court, a multi-purpose room, restrooms, and an office. Outdoor improvements include a plaza, new adult fitness equipment, improved lighting and landscaping. Thank you to the many years of advocacy from neighbors and our project partners, HOPE SF, Mercy Housing, Related California, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, and Wu Yee Children's Services. Read more about community involvement in this project courtesy of the San Francisco Chronicle, and the important work of Drew Jenkins. Thirty years ago, Drew and his Sunnydale basketball squad (pictured above) asked for a new gym in Visitacion Valley. We are excited to take the next step toward making this dream a reality!
