The monarch migration has begun! Monarch butterflies are leaving their coastal overwintering sites and fanning out across the west. During this unique migration, SF Zoo & Gardens has partnered with AZA's "S.A.F.E. Monarch" program. By planting pollinator-friendly flowers, you can help save this beautiful species. Have you ever watched the ostriches and wondered what they were feeling? Our ostriches have a number of different poses that they can strike, depending on their mood. If their tails are up, that signifies that the ostriches are worried, while a tail down means that they are feeling relaxed. Spinning in circles or “pirouetting” indicates alarm. You can learn more about very own ostriches this month as they are our highlighted on Tonka's Troop webpage (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=f4027534b5&e=7683a9aed3) and on our social media channels!

Our rescued bears, Kiona and Kachina, have been happily exploring Hearst Grizzly Gulch after “waking up” from their denning season! Grizzly bears generally start to slow down in late fall and will remain in a dormant state as late as the end of April before they are more actively replenishing from their sleepy winter. Check out them playing in their pool here. (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=addff863d5&e=7683a9aed3)
