Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks  Bayside Saturdays Begins on April 3 Every Saturday in April from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., choose your own adventure along the India Basin & Hunter’s Point waterfront during Bayside Saturdays, presented by Livable City and BMAGIC. Enjoy free drop-in fitness classes, giveaways, live music, small business specials, all while taking in nature and new art all along the waterfront! Be sure to also drop by the EcoCenter in Heron's Head Park and grab an adventure book created by our staff. The first Bayside Saturday will take place on April 3. Bayside Saturdays Volunteer Coaches Needed for SFYBL Season In partnership with Coaching Corps, we are looking to recruit and turn 50 volunteer community members into youth coaches ahead of the upcoming San Francisco Youth Baseball League season. Get outside this spring and help develop the next Buster Posey. No coaching experience is necessary for this free training, which will teach you everything about youth sport development and how to run a team. Get creative this spring through digital photography, animation, special effects for short films/social media, improv, and more. Registration Webpage Spring Gardening 101 Workshop on April 3 Join Alemany Farm for its spring gardening workshop series and its Spring Gardening 101 workshop on Saturday, April 3 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. The workshop will discuss how to pivot from spring to summer, including tips on crop varieties that thrive in our climate and ideal planting times. Spring Gardening 101 Workshop Volunteer Day at Heron's Head Park on April 17 Join One Tree Planted and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department for a special habitat restoration project at Heron's Head Park. This project coincides with the arrival of bird nesting season. Activities will include invasive weed removal, mulching, tree stump placement, and trash removal. This project will help revitalize the weathered outdoor classroom for our programs, which is used year-round to educate youth about biodiversity, social and environmental justice, and the importance of preserving our open spaces for our collective benefit. Volunteer Signup Fracchia Prize 2021 Essay Contest Extended to July 15 The San Francisco Historical Society announced that the deadline for the third annual Fracchia Prize essay contest has been extended to July 15. The contest, co-sponsored with San Francisco City Guides, is open to any student attending a high school in San Francisco. Interested candidates are required to submit an original and properly cited written work consisting of between 1,200 and 1,600 words, based on the prompt, which is civic monuments. The top three essay winners will receive cash prizes, including $2,500 for first place, along with publication of their essays. Need inspiration?
