For customer and community safety, we are continuing to evolve our Community Wildfire Safety Program to improve and strengthen our electric system. Keeping customers and communities safe from wildfires and reducing the impact of Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events are our most important responsibilities.

California continues to experience an increase in wildfire risk and a longer wildfire season. To reduce the wildfire risk for our customers, we are working year-round and nonstop to make our system safer, with short-, medium- and long-term plans.

Steps we are taking in 2021

There is no single solution to wildfire safety. Some of the steps we are taking in 2021 include:

Supporting customers before, during and after PSPS events by providing more information and better resources.

Managing trees and other vegetation located near power lines that could cause a wildfire or power outage, above and beyond state standards, through Enhanced Vegetation Management. 

.;
Helping to reduce the size of PSPS events by hardening power lines and installing sectionalizing devices. 

.;
Pinpointing how to best prevent and respond to the risk of wildfires by testing and using new tools and technologies.
