Breed last week announced Stern Grove Festival, the longest-running free outdoor music festival in the Bay Area, will return to Sigmund Stern Grove for its 84th season this summer beginning June 20, 2021. The multi-genre music festival will run through August 29 with a full slate of in-person concerts featuring today’s most sought-after artists and local established and up and coming performers. It will remain free, but organizers will limit audience capacity according to health orders through an online ticket reservation system at sterngrove.org. Guidelines will be adjusted over time, with limited seating expected for at least the first few concerts. Initial reservation options include pods of either four or six people. Ticketing will open online before each concert and will be issued on a first-come, first served basis. For more information, click the link below. Stern Grove Festival Returns Great Highway Joint Hearing on June 10 Tune in on Thursday, June 10 at 1 p.m. for a special joint hearing with the SF Recreation and Park Commission and the SFMTA Board to discuss the future of the Great Highway. Since April 2020, the Great Highway coastal promenade has allowed for safe and accessible recreation during the COVID-19 pandemic and has also impacted traffic patterns in the area. At this joint hearing, Commissioners and Board members will discuss the D4 Mobility survey and study findings from the Transportation Authority, consider public feedback and develop elements of a pilot project before recommending next steps for the future of the Great Highway. Members of the public are encouraged to call in during the hearing or provide feedback via email: SF Recreation and Park Commission: recpark.commission at sfgov.org SFMTA Board: mtaboard at sfmta.com Your input and experience of this scenic thoroughfare are valuable and we look forward to hearing from you! Article AAPI Month in our Parks: Golden Gate Pavilion May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) heritage month, where we celebrate the generations of Asians and Pacific Islanders who have contributed to our country and communities. We are looking at our parks and their features that are named after prominent AAPI people or hold significance in the AAPI community. During the U.S. Bicentennial in 1976, Taipei’s Mayor Lee Teng-hui visited San Francisco and made an announcement: he intended to bestow a gift upon Taipei’s sister city. This gift was the Golden Gate Pavilion, which sits at the edge of placid Stow Lake near Huntington Falls in Golden Gate Park. The gift confirmed the friendship and cultural exchange between San Francisco and the capitol of the Republic of China on Taiwan. It also commemorated the struggle and contributions of early Chinese settlers in California, the largest settlement of Chinese outside of China. After five years of public process, the Pavillion was finally dedicated in 1981. Be sure to take a stroll around Stow Lake and visit this elegant and peaceful structure to close out May and AAPI heritage month.
