Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks The Thanksgiving holiday offers all of us some much-needed perspective— the opportunity to pause and reflect upon the people and things for which we are most grateful. Together, the volunteers, advocates and philanthropists who improve our public spaces and the park lovers who find inspiration in nature, reflection and recreation have created a vibrant community that makes our city better, healthier, and more fun. From our gardeners, custodians and structural maintenance crews, to our park rangers, tree toppers and recreation, capital and administrative teams, your collective effort to serve our city and its residents is unequivocal, and we are thankful for everything that you do. In addition, thank you to our labor groups, community organizations and non-profit park partners -- your leadership, support and collaborative spirit over the past year and beyond has helped to make our parks more accessible, relevant and equitable for San Franciscans. We are grateful as well to our partners on the India Basin Park Project: the San Francisco Parks Alliance, the Trust for Public Land, and A. Philip Randolph Institute. Through this partnership, we broke ground on one of the most significant park projects in our city's history this past year. We are also thankful for things slowly but surely returning to normal. We're excited for the return of the lighting ceremony for Uncle John's Tree, and Winter Lights in Golden Gate Park after a hiatus due to the pandemic. Starting in December, this illuminated outdoor experience for all ages will give Golden Gate Park visitors a journey through an immersive wonderland of lights, presented by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, the San Francisco Parks Alliance, Illuminate, Conservatory of Flowers, and the National AIDS Memorial Grove. We're also excited that Camp Mather will be back for the summer of 2022 after its own two year hiatus, with the lottery beginning on Thursday, December 2 at 10 a.m. and closing on Thursday, January 6. The holidays are a special time when we’re meant to take a break after a busy year and cherish our family and friends. We hope you have a great Thanksgiving and look forward to seeing you in our parks this holiday season.
