Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks Heron's Head Park Nature Exploration Area Ribbon Cutting November 1 We're excited to share that we will have a ribbon cutting and community celebration for the Heron's Head Park Nature Exploration Area (32 Jennings Street) on Monday, November 1 at 5 p.m. The 12,000-square-foot space is a collaboration between the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and its partners: the Port of San Francisco; Kaiser Permanente, San Francisco Children and Nature, Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds, and KABOOM!. It will be the largest of its kind in San Francisco, with a design that allows children to jump, climb, balance and explore on natural play features. Thank you again to all of the volunteers that made this amazing park feature possible! For more details, to RSVP, and view photos, click the link below. Nature Exploration Area Outside Lands from October 29 to 31 and Road Closures Outside Lands is returning to Golden Gate Park for Halloween weekend from Friday, October 29, through Sunday October 31. We're excited to bring this event back to San Francisco, while taking measures to protect our parkland and keep people safe and healthy. This event emphasizes sustainability, achieving a 90% waste diversion rate from our landfills. To keep this green initiative going, we recommend relying on bikes, scooters, and public transportation as much as possible this weekend! Don’t miss out on Lizzo while trying to find parking or sitting in traffic. Plan your trip here. Note that there are a number of road closures, including some that are currently in place, that will impact traffic in and around the park. For more information about road closures, click the link below. OSL Road Closures Halloween Events in our Parks Beginning October 28 It's spooky season in our parks! An extensive public outreach process that was launched asks the public to consider a broad range of proposed updates to the car-free route on Golden Gate Park’s John F. Kennedy Drive—from modifying street closures to improving access to mobility services like the park shuttle, bikeshare, scooters, taxis and pedicabs. This program is a free two-week job readiness training that introduces San Francisco residents ages 17 to 24 to the construction industry. The job training program brings together four nonprofits: Brightline, Community Youth Center (CYC) of San Francisco, A. Philip Randolph Institute, and Mission Hiring Hall, as well as the City’s pre-apprenticeship program, CityBuild Academy (CBA). Our Video of the Week highlights this program and comes courtesy of Brightline. We're excited for this group's next session at the EcoCenter in Heron's Head Park this weekend.
