Summer may be coming to a close, but the gardens at SF Zoo continue to bloom! The beautiful tiger lilies, pictured here, are blossoming near the Lion House while the dahlia garden near the Station Cafe is looking as gorgeous as ever. Keep your eyes out on your next visit!

Back in 2019, two members of our animal care team, Marycarol and Christina, worked with Cici, a Sulphur-crested cockatoo, on some innovative training techniques in preparation for a procedure related to an epilepsy diagnosis. They were recently featured on Behavior Works, a website created by Dr. Susan Friedman, a psychology professor at Utah State University, who has pioneered the application of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to captive and companion animals. Our thoughts are with those affected by Hurrican Ida and our colleagues taking care of the animals at the four Audubon Nature Institute facilities.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

Jasiri, born here at SF Zoo on August 30, 2015, turned six earlier this week. He was joined by mother Sukari for a festive celebration featuring a variety of enrichment including presents and an ice treat cake. Happy birthday, Jasiri!

During the heat wave last weekend, our meerkats received special ice enrichment to keep cool. Check out the adorable video of them searching for mealworms in a bucket of ice here (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=939fee54d7&e=7683a9aed3) .
Members in good standing are invited to attend the Annual Meeting of the San Francisco Zoological Society on September 21. The main item of business will be the election of officers & directors, as well as any proposed amendment(s) to the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws. Due to COVID safety protocols, this year’s meeting will be held virtually.
